I'm hunting deer only and can't decide between the rage hyperdermic plus P. Or the G5 striker for broadheads. I'm shooting a 67 pound bow at a 27 and half draw length with a 100 grain head and a 433 grain finished arrow weight. I'm looking for something that leaves a modest nice size hole while putting blood on the ground...... As long as I make a good shot. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My other half tried hypodermics...all bad! We tracked and lost 3 different deer with those darn things. On the deer we finally found, the entry hole was nice and the thing closed about half way through and exited about the size of an eraser head. I contacted the company and they were more than super to work with and exchanged the hypos for regular 2 blade rage. Just my experience...there is something to be said for "if it aint broke dont fix it"! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Your specs are close to mine, but I don't know your bow's IBO rated speed. It probably doesn't matter that much with your numbers. I'm also assuming you're from Mississippi (like me originally) and hunt from a tree. With that in mind, you can shoot almost major broadhead on the market. I would say it depends on your willingness to tune your arrows and bow, whether you want to buy them locally or online (long term), and how much you want to spend. I had good success last year with NAP Spitfire Maxx's with the Trophy Tip. I like the way the blades are held in and the 1-3/4" cut is a compromise between hole size (2" cut) and penetration (1-1/2" cut). They flew truly like my field points, so I didn't have to make any tuning adjustments. I shot at and took two deer, both with broadhead pass-thrus. One was stopped by the offside foreleg bone, which it broke in two. She only went about 15 yards. I hunted from a ground blind so I don't think i got the blood trails you see get from the downward trajectory from a tree. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
With that setup you should be able to use almost any 100 grain head and have success (as long as you put it in the pump station). I would say go with your gut and make a decision.
With the universe of so many good heads on the market, curious why you are limiting yourself to only those two choices? What draws you to those heads over other great options?
My set up is almost identical to yours other than a 26.5" draw length. I personally prefer a fixed blade. I shoot Slick Tricks because they are incredibly sharp right out of the package. G5 Strikers seem to have a bit of a reputation for being dull. Right now on the Slick Trick Facebook page there is a video of a guy running a brand new G5 Striker over his thumb right out of the package. It did not cut him. https://www.facebook.com/SlickTrickBroadheads/ If you are set on a mechanical, I would consider something from NAP. I have never used any of their broadheads, however, if I did try a mechanical it would be one of theirs based upon how well they work for the BHOD crew.
Really like the sharpness and flight from the strikers. And the big hole while still penetrating with the hypo plus p. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Check out bloodrunners. Those are an interesting twist on a broadhead and i have heard some of the BH.com staff uses them! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
