Well bow season opened up here today and it was PERFECT baseball weather with a high that reached 90. It was pretty hot once the sun got glaring. The mosquitos were out this morning buzzing away, since i forgot my thermacell, and the heat wasnt terrible. Thankfully i had one for the evening.

I ended up hunting a spot that we have had 3 nice deer on camera, a few small young bucks, and not a single doe all summer, 100% buck city. 2 of them 8 pts that we saw up until we pulled our camera, one big and one decent and a third we only saw for about 3 days during the summer that is a monster.

Well i got in the woods early and jumped a deer walking in but it didnt seem to go to far as i was easing into the woods. about 20 mintues after it was light enough a spike came walking up heading to the bedding area and i had a clear shot multiple times from 13-23 yards... It was a good size deer and a big spike as far as that goes. I decided i would not take a shot beings its was soo early and that the bucks at this area had been together so frequently throughout the summer. Rest of the morning was slow expect for an Owl that showed up and the chainsaws and yelling that was going on across the next property.

After a good lunch and a 3 hour nap went back at it. Didnt see anything, but i had my thermacell so the 90 degree was atleast not as miserable as it could have been... the owl showed back up and maybe 30 ft from me in the tree, that was pretty cool.

Good day overall..... but of course im kinda of wishing i had of taken a shot at the spike.. Im not a fan of shooting spikes and small bucks, and the club i hunt with has a fine for small bucks, but at this property the surrounding clubs kill everything so our club has established the rules of killing everything so we dont pass them deer that we pass up. Would have been really cool to have taken a shot and possibly taken a deer on opening day, but i am happy with my hunt, he did scent me even though he walked in the same path i did and circled for about 5 mintues not seeing me.

But im glad opening day has come and gone. It shouldnt be 90 degrees again and i will be very happy if it isnt, next week is mid 70s give or take. I have about 5 more days ill be able to bow hunt so im looking forward to the rest of the season... especially once it gets cooler
