same thing in the south, everyone i knew as a kid had a 30-30 lever gun... not so much like that any more... most down there are now using Rem 700's in 270 and 308

30-30's are cool, pawn shops are def. the way to go. Just want to throw this out there, but the Thompson Center line of guns with interchangeable barrels is awesome. I've got one with the following barrels: .270, .50 cal., .300 and love it. It is pricey, but I can put a .243 barrel on it for Emily when she's ready. At least that's what I tell Stephanie, ha. Hell I bought a lifted golf cart for "the girls", having kids ain't bad at all.

Yes, I've been wanting to get this set-up with the Encore myself, about $650 to get you started and then just add the barrels as you please.

I bought a new 336, today. I'm gonna add a 2-7 redfield scope and call it done. Ordering the scope, tonight. I'm still looking for another, though.....if you hear of a good one out there.

My guess is I'll shoot a yote before I shoot a deer with a rifle, though. We'll see. It's ML season in NC right now. If I'd been ML hunting this AM, there'd be a NICE deer hanging in my building, right now.

I'll keep at it with the bow, when we're (my son) not hunting together. I'm really looking forward to hunting with him, though.

Sounds like your all over them Jeff. It's been a tough one here, but went with pops last night and let him set the stand in Alleghany and he popped an 170lb 8 pointer. That was the first time we set foot on the property this year.
