I couldn't agree with everyone anymore. l may be lazy at times with certain things, but you can bet your ass I'll have my crap ready for season!
Wow, judging from the responses, up until about 5-6 years ago, according to all you guys I was a scum bag-no respect-half arsed bowhunter because I didn’t practice all summer let alone all year. And to be honest, other than one diehard summer of continuous shooting to get good out 50-60 yds, I’m probably back to being that slob hunter to most of you guys. I am so heart broken now.
What if you're unlucky like me and are traveling for work every week and are never home until a week before hunting season starts??? 95% maybe shouldn't wait, but maybe that 5% like me has no choice. I finally got to be home for more then a night 2 weeks ago. I went and ordered a dozen arrows with wraps, blah blah blah so I could get ready for the season which starts this Saturday. Am I ready??? NOPE! The shop i got my arrows from said it would be a while until I get my arrows, and I was fine with that because I figured I would have to wait. I turned my bow up 5 pounds and went with a 340 axis nano from a 400 beman. It will take me a couple nights to site in my bow, but I will be ready. Some people have no choice is all I am saying.
People like you are the reason I qualified the statement as "a lot of people it's just lazyizness". Good luck getting your stuff together.
I agree, for most.Especially if they have a good foundation to build on. I am sure I could not pick my bow up until NEXT deer season and be able to kill a deer with it at 20. I worked with a guy once that wounded 3 deer before he decided he needed to have his gear looked at.I still don't think he ever practiced.I don't usually get worked up over this kind of stuff but I did get on to him and let him know this game isn't that freaking hard.
I just started shooting a bow this year. I bought a bow in late July, and I am still learning to shoot as I have posted questions on here a few times. I am lucky that a good friend of mine is helping me set up stands on a few of his spots that he has scouted. The stands are already set, the season opens next week, but he and I have both talked it over, and until I am shooting perfect at 20 yards, which will probably be mid october or later, I am not bringing a bow into the woods, it is not fair to the animal we are hunting. So i will have a good 3-4 months of constant shooting before I ever enter the woods with a bow, and still I would know not to take a shot I am not 100% confident in, and for sure no more than 20 yards at this point.
Drove me nuts working as a gunsmith and running the archery shop; it's dead as a ghost town all winter and the week before the season or some big hunt someone needs something done with top priority at the last minute and it's so busy you haven't got time to eat. Hint: If you take it in to be worked on in February it's going to get a lot closer attention because the staff isn't rushed.
