So I recently purchased a husqvarna 350 chainsaw from a yard sale for 25 bucks. I put a new spark plug and new fuel and the puppy works like a charm. However, in the midst of taking the clutch cover off to put a new chain on it, I somehow forcefully (ok I pried it off) removed the clutch cover while the chain break was on. Now I cannot get the clutch cover back on becasue the clutch brake is to tight on the cover and won't fit back on the drum. I have tried to manually turn the locking mechanism on the clutch cover with no success.

any thoughts on how I can fix this??

Got in a pinch.. huh,... I would look for a parts supply shop and replace the bent parts. You might try either a repair shop or be looking at a new saw. Good luck with it and ..you are not an idiot, you just tried to hard...hahaha.

Found this on the Google machine and it's specific to Husqvarna chainsaws but it sounds like you've already tried it (did you make sure to do step #2)? The spring is supposed to reset if you force it back on with the chain brake pushed forward.

    1. Set the chainsaw on the firm surface
    2. Push the chain break (front hand guard) all the way forward
    3. Line the clutch cover over chainsaw, and push it in (requires some force) that will reset the spring
    4. When you take the cover back off the chain brake will be in disengaged and ready for proper installation
