I had done something very similar but, during the day, in a public hunting area. Good news, about a mile down the road something did not "feel" right. Turned around and it was still there. Now, I immediately put my bow in the trunk prior to anything else and also walk around the car before leaving.
You got really lucky right there. I've crushed too many flyrods and fishing poles by backing over them or getting them caught in the car door. So far no archery tackle yet, I'm going to try to keep it that way.
Yikes! That was lucky. Good thing you had to back out. First thing I always do is put my bow in my truck then take gear off.
Thankfully I've never done that - I am someone who checks things 10 times before I leave. Now the real question - did you tell your wife? (Or does this stay under the rug) Glad your season didn't have to be delayed!
I could see me doing that some day. I've left bolts in the ground after shooting the kid's crossbow out and left folding stools and other things too.
I bought my first new bow, mathews z7x, fully outfitted, fancy soft custom z7x case, and arrow holder tube... I have been wanting to hunt a friend's property so bad for so long and he finally gave me permission. I was so excited as I packed my truck up to leave out in the morning. I put my bow case up against the rear wheel of my truck. Well something came up and I had to leave right quick to get something. I took off... I heard the crunch and could feel the back end raise... Like you my heart sank. The truck was barely in park as i was jumping out of it. I picked it up like a child and ran it into the garage... Unzipped the case... Pulled the bow out... Not a scratch!!!! I ran over just the arrow tube. Best yet, it didn't even hurt the arrows. I ran outside and shot a few rounds using the headlamps from the truck. Perfect... Man I was so scared.
Wow, that's good luck for sure. Glad you didn't have to bite the bullet during season and get a new bow or anything, that would have sucked! I always put mine back in the hard bow case sitting across the back seat, first thing I do no matter what!
