I drive through OH, IN, and IL yesterday and saw a ton of deer. Many were too far away but two of the closer deer were mature bucks. One of them was in the wide open at about 1pm EST in Ohio. I'd say they are starting to move.
Think things might actually be picking up here. Last night saw a decent buck right when it was getting dark. Bad thing was it was too dark to make him out other than looked like he had decent sized body and rack wasn't bad. Scrapes amd rubs are showing up and seeing some midday movement.
Had a buck chasing and grunting after sun up this morning & evening. Not full force but they are starting to drop their guard. Next weekend should be good.
In my area, looks like winds may be up to 30MPH...does this keep you guys from hunting or do you go anyway? Any changes you make to deal with the wind?
I don't bother going out in those kinds of winds. The deer don't move and the wind could affect arrow flight unless its a really close shot.
Seen a fawn with 2 does yesterday in 20+ mph winds and shot a small 8 later in the day... Just saying, ya never know.
Slowest rut I've experienced. Very little chasing and seeking activity in my area. Pics are showing most of the movement at night. I've had a few small 2 year olds chase does around but I have yet to see a mature deer on its feet.
Some of the "experts" predicted a trickle rut this year and to me so far it seems they may be right. Just gotta keep hunting and hopefully something will come by.
It would be nice if the weather would stabilize. It has been far from consistent this year in my neck of the woods.
Yeah, weather hasn't been favorable on the majority of days I've been able to get out in the stand. I'm taking tomorrow and Wednesday off in hopes that I'll put something on the ground. It looks like the weather will be much better than this weekend...who knows, but I want to get out before gun season.
saw a big boy chasing anything two weeks ago and my uncle saw a buck breed a doe. been warm hoping gun will be cool in the morning. hoping to kill something with antlers
Going to hit some private land where the orange army can't interfere this weekend. Weather looks like it could be in our favor.
I don't think it is legal to bowhunt during the second shotgun season. If you wear orange you can during ml season. Maybe I am not understanding you correctly. I am just trying to help, not trying to be an *******.
Yea I think the only time you can bow hunt is youth amd the two late cwd seasons. This weekend and the weekend becor this last one are only shotgun. Also the ml like french said
If you're east of 47, you can hunt. Certain counties do not allow shotgun, and you are clear to hunt the entire season. Not sure what county you're hunting in, and I may have missed something. But, check it out.
