Ive been hunting hard the last few days in Menard county near Petersburg. Lots of seeking & chasing going on. Saw a few big bucks cruising also. Its starting to heat up in the deer woods.
The one spot I hunt that is always a great rut spot was dead this past weekend....I expect it to be great this weekend!
Pulled my cards on Sunday while hunting, and finally have shots of 5-6 nice bucks in one of my food plots. They are all a couple of hours after sundown, though. Only bucks in the daylight are a yearling spike and a really small 6 point. Hope the cooler weather and the upcoming rut will get them moving in the daytime.
Any of you guys out today? Thinkin about doing an afternoon sit her in a few minutes but it's windy as heck.
Rut is on! While on my after school bus route I saw 3 bucks. One was a shooter! Can't wait til morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I have seen more bucks this morning than any one sit ever. I am around Springfield Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm at school so I can only hunt on weekends due to a 2.5 hour trip back home. I'm in northern Illinois and last weekend I saw 4 bucks chasing. Only one was a shooter but he came in around an hour before last light. I'm going out this weekend so I'll give an update on the activity I see.
Rochester....saw at least 7 bucks in the last 36 hours...this is the second best one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quZaIOUEDMg&feature=em-share_video_user
I had a buck that has been a problem for me all season running circles around me this morning. I need to get him on film. I don't think he is young. His face is grey, almost white between the antlers. He has no brow tines. Both sides match, about 12-14 inches long and thick and each side forks. About as big as a 4 pointer can get. I didn't take him this morning, but I could have. I call him "Forkhead". On Friday, Forkhead messed up my chance at taking a monster. He was rutted up big time today. I actually asked myself if he might be retarded or at least challenged. He winded me twice and still came back several more times. If I get the chance on Tuesday, Forkhead will meet a Thunderhead!
I am sad and pathetic. Saw five deer. One I bumped while walking in, then three does with a large buck across the river in a field. Then the rain picked up and then the wind. I was comfortable, until the rain soaked in and then the wind kicked up. Damp and cold and I started thinking about my bed and something warm to drink....now I am home on my last day to hunt the rut. Sad and pathetic!
