How many of you guys are hunting in Illinois this weekend? Got home from school this afternoon and went out tonight and the bucks are hot and heavy after the does in central IL.
I've just seen mindless wandering of the bucks. Only two seconds of chasing. The deer I've seen have pretty much all been by thier lonesome. I think the part of the park I'm hunting is the 'celibate zone'.
Thats too bad, whereabouts are you hunting in Illinois? I'm in Menard County. Saw a few shooter bucks tonight, one being a 140 class and the other probably closer to 150. Hopefully they're still running good tomorrow morning. The wind is supposed to pick up, which really stinks. Good luck to everyone this weekend.
I'm hunting in Piatt County at Allerton Park. (Monticello, IL) I've seen two shooters and several borderline shooters but they're just not as active as I would expect this time of year. The does I've seen have been without any bucks in tow.
That pretty much sums up my last week of hunting right there. Might see a little buck after a doe. But no all out chasing that's for sure. Seeing lots of does in groups or by themselves.
Saw lone doe yesterday afternoon, by herself and she looked hot. Tail stuck out and fluffy, no buck with her. On second thought maybe she was taking a dump?
I wussed out this morning. I did prepare a bunch of venison for grinding so I can make sausage sticks and burger so it wasn't like I was totally without deer interaction. We'll see how Sunday's hunt goes.
Had quite a bit of action this morning. My dad shot a big wide 8-pointer this morning but unfortunately hit it in the shoulder and didn't get much penetration and found very little blood. I also saw a long tined 12 pointer that looked like it would gross in the 150-160's. Tonight I didn't see a whole lot but I'll be back at it in the morning.
They are rocking in southern Illinois also right now!!! Gunners should have it made down there.. Walt
I was out all day today. Saw a doe at first light and a fair buck not long after. The buck came from a different direction than the doe did. The doe was still hanging around my stand when the buck showed up. He saw her, stared at her for a moment and then turned and walked away. That's just not right. After that I saw a guy jogging down the trail with his dog. Another hunter drop his drawers (yikes)in the woods just over a hundred yards away. Another hunter walking down the trail and two hikers. One hiker had TB or something. At first I was trying to make the coughs into snort-wheezes... hee hee. Wishful thinking. Deb and I hunted the same zone for the evening hunt. I set up too close to the parking area. Who knew that parking lot would be party central for dozens of screaming, yelling, door slamming kids? I saw a coyote and that was it. Deb saw two bucks together right before dark. That's not right either.
