Obama must have been inspirational Cook County Gives Up On Stopping Crime – Considers Passing Law to Punish the Victim Instead of the Criminal! Proposed ordinance would require all victims of stolen firearms to report the theft within arbitrary time period - or face hefty fines! Today, Cook County Commissioners trotted out their latest in a series of affronts to law-abiding gun owners: an ordinance that does not even attempt to go after the criminal, but – literally -- makes the victims of crime pay! The proposed ordinance, sponsored by County Commissioners Toni Preckwinkle, Jesus Garcia, John P. Daley, Edwin Reyes and Larry Suffredin, says that after 48 hours of when the firearm should have been known to be either lost or stolen, the victim of the gun theft is in violation. If a theft of a firearm is not reported to Cook County and local law enforcement entities are not notified within this arbitrary period of time, law-abiding gun owners will have to pay a fine ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 – on top of being robbed already! This penalty would apply not only to residents of Cook County wherever the loss, destruction, or theft took place, but to any person who owns or possesses a firearm and resides outside of Cook County who loses, destroys, transfers or is robbed of the firearm in Cook County. Further, mandatory reporting requirements have nothing at all to do with the actual circumstances of the loss, but instead focus on gathering information on the gun owner – are law enforcement officials not to even attempt to investigate the crime or recover stolen property but just penalize the victim again? The police should be focused on locating the criminal and penalizing the person responsible. Nothing in this ordinance even speaks to the idea of locating the perpetrator of the theft, but is only one more attack on an entire body of the law-abiding and innocent just because politicians disagree with their exercise of the civil liberty that is lawful firearm ownership. This ordinance clearly does not even attempt to stop crime and adds insult to injury. Do county politicians actually think that gun owners want to have their firearms lost or stolen, and then deliberately avoid reporting it? This ordinance will be considered in the upcoming weeks. Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated on this matter. It is important that you contact your Cook County Commissioners IMMEDIATELY and tell them to oppose this proposed ordinance that would have no effect on crime, but would only further punish already victimized individuals.
I just read the bill. I don't know how the state can legally do this.... I bet that is challenged and goes to the supreme court if it passes.
Actually I believe that is a county ordinance so it's that much easier for them to pass before it can be drawn out in legal challenges, I feel sorry for Cook county yet hate them just the same. I've been to Chicago one time, I'll never revisit.

Here's a condensed video. Anyone know how the proposal Sen. Sam McCann said he was going to write to be on he next ballot will work? Is this something the residents can speak on to make sure it gets on the ballot or is it all an internal thing?
Lunatics in the NE asylum at it again. 13-R-47 RESOLUTION Sponsored by THE HONORABLE TONI PRECKWINKLE, PRESIDENT, JESUS G. GARCIA, EDWIN REYES, ROBERT B. Posted this in the wrong thread This should prove interesting. http://www.sj-r.com/breaking/x1578913893/Man-asks-concealed-carry-charge-be-dismissed
Alan Gura has filed his answer to the 7th's request on Madigan's request for a rehearing en banc. The court has a reccomended 10 day window to bring it to vote or do nothing and deny the rehear request. Todd Vandermyde(IL NRA Lobbyist) also mentioned that their right to carry bill has been submitted. Sounded optimistic about it and even mentioned the IL state police starting to make revisions in policy in expectation of concealed carry.
Yet again, the 2nd amendment only means hunting privileges in Chicago Dear Mr. Xxxxx, Thank you for contacting my office. I appreciate your thoughts regarding the Second Amendment rights of all Illinois residents. Hunting is an important tradition across the state and in my native Southern Illinois, and as a former prosecutor and as Lt. Governor, I am committed to protecting our constitutional rights. But we also need to consider the effects of gun violence. Our efforts should focus on protecting both our constitutional rights and our safety. My goal is to support measures that both reduce gun violence and protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners. As firearms legislation moves through the General Assembly, I expect that there will be a robust debate on these issues. I will continue to be involved in discussions that involve the safety of our citizens. Thank you once again for your thoughts. It is important for me to maintain an active engagement with the public on all matters that affect our state. Please contact my office again at any time. Sincerely, Sheila Simon SS/dac
News article with McCann elaborating on his "guns are a God given right" speech and more on his constitutional amendment to help secure IL gun rights http://www.sj-r.com/opinions/x1578913880/McCann-says-gun-other-rights-come-from-God
Really wish we could get Garry McCarthy's stellar record in NY published statewide. The guys is as corrupt as anyone in Chicago http://www.sj-r.com/breaking/x1578914970/Durbin-Chicago-police-push-for-stricter-gun-laws
I love how the article ends comparing Chicago to NY. Talk about an agenda, somehow I believe they could turn a Baskin Robbins adding a new flavor into a comparison to NY's strict gun laws. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/2...otings-on-bloody-chicago-day/?intcmp=trending
In Rocky(bullwinkle) voice. And now here's something you'll really like. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/Bil...B&DocNum=997&GAID=12&SessionID=85&LegID=71413
That's awesome, any idea on when they will review this? If this goes through IL will have drastically better laws than NY for the pro gun crowd. Who would have thought.......
It won't be going through lightning fast like the ban attempt did. It'll bounce back and forth with amendments and negotiations but there is a high percentage for this passing, it's all in the details right now. The 7th has until Monday to give Madigans request for a rehearing of IL's ban on concealed carry, that was ruled unconstitutional, a vote or deny the request. The clock has been ticking down from 180 days since mid December to institute some form of concealed carry. If the 180 expires it becomes constitutional carry and neither side really wants that. Sen. John Cullerton may have choked on his own tongue recently when he said IL has to pass concealed carry. He tried to chalk it up as anti as possible, saying the NRA would love for the 180 to expire and the state would return to the wild west. In a public event he even mentioned something that could be taken as a trade for an assault weapons ban, but i don't think that will happen either. The only real control Chicago has in this one is damage control, to their egos!!! I just printed off all 49 pages of it to read before it starts going through the bargaining process. Will be interesting to follow something on our side.
