Yeah, Im pretty disgusted right now. I dont want to settle for anything less than the original language in 997 now. If not that, let them figure the mess of constitutional carry out.

That's kinda my feelings, we've tweaked and gave a lot on the original bill that was already almost more strict then any other carry bill in the country. Seems pretty obvious they don't want to pass anything except what makes it virtually impossible to carry anywhere. So I say jus keep doin what we have been, shoot down any crap bill they bring up and re introduce the original bill and let the clock run down and let the game of the antis figure out what to do.

New update on Illinoiscarry is saying that a senator walked the house floor just before the vote and some reps chose to withold their vote due to a restrictive bill being drafted in the senate. We still have chicago in this state, so I'm not feeling any more optimism with that news. When they say chicago has seceded I'll change my opinion.

I'm just going to carry my bow and a full hip quiver everywhere i go from now on.:D
On a serious note why can't they just pass a simple carry law. I mean an exposed carry law like they have in AZ

Yea I jus read that too cls74, it still doesn't put my thinking at ease. Keep reading a lot that "we have them on the ropes" or whatever. We're not gonna get any of the so called supporters from chicago to give us a yes because they know if they do they'll be gone next election. And as far as then waiting to see what the senate comes out with is a stupid answer on not voting. I hate to say it and throw the people in that area under the bus but chicago isn't gonna let anything pass unless they can control it like they do the gun laws now, its already stricter up there than rest of state and they're not gonna give that up because then they'll haveta loosen whats there now.

Thank you for your continued support of the 2nd amendment and gettin a good carry bill passed in the state. Yesterday was pretty exciting and stressful I'm sure especially for you and the other supporters. Its a shame it ended the way it did. My hope is the continuance of trying to get a bill put into place that is fair to everyone and not heavily restrictive. My hope is that we don't try to compromise too much and still have something that is bad. It seems we've continued to give a lot and gotten no where, if anything I would hope that if nothing fair gets passed we jus let the June 9th deadline pass and let things fall where they may. I hope we keep the shall issue stipulation and keep it out of the local municipalities from limiting who can and can't get a permit. If a law is passed and a person does what is required they shouldn't be denied because a leader of the community doesn't agree with the issuance of license. Again thank you for your continued support.

This is the letter and response I got from my representative. Shes always kinda short and sweet about her responses.

So what's the thought on something like this happening. Personally while I would feel sorry for anyone living in the Chicago area, I also already see this happening. Cook county already has stricter gun laws then everyone else and I dont see the ccw being any different. They are in control now and in my opinion dont want to have the carry law be the same statewide because it would pressure them to loosen the stricter laws they have now. Of course my decision is made a lot easier when the 3 counties I spend 90% of my life in have already passed ccw and the biggest town was had it passed but chose not to because the state law would of overrode it. So really I'm not looking at much restrictions either way.

I stopped reading that article when it said the US Supreme Court upheld the NY law. That is an outright blatant lie put in only to misinform its readers. The SCOTUS did not uphold anything, they simply chose not to hear that particular case for reasons they didn't specify.

To uphold that law they would have had to hear the case and rule as such. They put no opinion on it either way, there is another case headed their way that some believe holds more merit and a broader ruling that they could have possibly opted to wait on. Until they do it's up in the air if they will or won't.

As fr a the article, if its what they're dubbing the Chicago cutout, we can't let that happen either. If we let them write in exclusions for Chicago they'll eventually want more and more and other places will be wooed to follow suit.

Let the clock expire, come June 9th IL will have more concealed carry than they've ever had. Let the judges rule on it and decide the punishment. All we need to do is kill bad bills, the 7th clearly stated they have 180 days to write an acceptable bill, it didn't say you have 180 days to do nothing. It also specifically mentioned Chicago in it, so with the Chicago Dems all holding out this lies completely on their shoulder.

Ha yea I had to scim through that part too, it does make ya wonder what the hell they're trying to come up with. Idk like I said with the laws that are already in place I'm not to sure they dems up around Chicago want to vote for anything unless they can redtrict it more than anywhere else. Either way even if the clock does run down it'll be tough in the northern part of the state to do much. Until they have to deal with couple lawsuits perhaps.

As a practical (and legal) matter, it will be much easier for a Chicago/Cook County resident to attack (in Court) an arbitrary Chicago restriction on concealed carry if/when we get Constitutional Carry on June 9, than it would be for that same resident to legally challenge a bad bill that puts a bunch of ridiculous restrictions on concealed carry, but theoretically "on paper" gives them the right to carry. I say, and I have told my reps this, to pass a GOOD bill if we can get one, but hold out for Court/Constitutional Carry if we must.

    Done.

But I can't wait to get out of this state. Did I mention Utah has constitutional open carry? A simple class for concealed carry??
Full auto is allowed... silencers okay... short barreled rifles okay..... ;)
Utah has allowed CC on it's college campuses (campi?) for years.

I've pretty much given up on this whole process. Both those for and aginst are pushing bills that are unknown to almost anyone and looking for blind support. I for one will not blindly support any type of legislation solely on the word that it is goin to be fair and decent. The interview yesterday Phelps gave to a radio station raised a lot of concrrns and nothing as been denied or confirmed about the intentions of "our" side that it making it seem any better. If you go over to illinois carry forum even the people that are doin most of the fighting jus keep saying everything will be fine and our best interest will be in mind. Like I said before I'm not supporting anything on the word that it'll be fair or a good law. As it stands right now I would jus as soon see the June deadline pass with nothing and go from there. Its pretty troubling one city is holding everything up and like I've said earlier in this thread if we're trying for the whole one state one law I believe we will lose. I'm sorry to say it but its become pretty obvious from recent votes the machine up north is not goin to change. There are already stricter laws there that prevent the population from owning firearms that I have sitting in my closet as well as more hoops they haveta jump through to even own a handgun. Maybe its just me but I've seen no indication that Chicago or cook county is goin to agree to something that will let the people living there have the same rights as I have where I live. Sure one state one law makes s good t-shirt or bumper sticker but its not goin to happen. At least not this time around, we aren't gonna go from having nothing to having everything. That's jus how it is and I'm confused as to why many people don't see that, I don't want that for the people that happen to live where its more strict but also haven't seen anything to think its not goin go happen. It will be much easier to fight for your rights as a chicago resident in court then to change the minds of the people that continually vote no for a decent carry law.

Phelps was on the 10pm news tonight. He didn't mention anything specifically on changes.

Hopes to have the bill ready Tuesday, news anchor said it was assumed to be very similar to NRA backed bill with a few changes. Phelps then said it will have some restrictions where you can carry, similar to 997 and it is a shall issue with preemption and no carve out. Believes law abiding gun owners who meet the training and things expected of them should be allowed to carry and a bureaucrat should not be able to say who does and doesn't get a permit.

Sounds like Raoul's bill is dead in the house if it even makes it out of the senate. New mag ban introduced for next week as well.
