I had the good fortune of being able to take this nice Illinois 9 pointer this morning. He came down off a ridge, making a beeline right past my stand toward a scrape line just behind me. He was at 8 yards went I sent the 100 grain Thunderhead sailing. Heart shot going in, and came out thru his shoulder. He calmly walked/staggered about 25 yards away and went down. Using measurements, we estimate he went about 225 live weight, and my Son and I had one hell of a time getting him out! About a half mile to the truck, even with a deer cart, was quite a workout. He is at the Taxidermist now, and he will be going on the wall. With a 20" inside spread, our taxidermist said he thinks I should have him measured, as he believes he will make P & Y. I'm not all that hung up on making the book, I am just happy to have the opportunity to take such a nice animal. After a layoff of over 15 years from Bowhunting, I got back into this year so I could hunt with my son Chris. He's a good hunting partner, and I hope he can take one bigger than mine! I always wanted to bow harvest a nice 8 pointer........and I think this 9 will fill the bill nicely! By the way, I shoot a Bear Carnage, with ICS Bowhunter arrows, and I am pulling 65 pounds. The 100 grain Thunderhead performed the task well. What a day.............I'm tired! :-)
I haven't had him scored, as he was caped out this afternoon. I may retrieve the antlers from my taxidermist at some point before he gets the mount done, and have him scored. I am curious to know if he is "book worthy", but he's special to me either way!
Was a workout hauling him out, but it was worth it in the end, I'm proud of ya daddy, I'll help ya drag em out anytime
Thanks man! It was cool getting him while you were hunting with me. Now.......we gotta put you on a bruiser......he's not the only bull in the woods!
Wow! Great story and great buck. I hope my son and I can enjoy this type of story. Last year, we both hit, but failed to kill bucks on Verteran's Day weekend. We have a big football game saturday, so we will be hard pressed to get that done this weekend. Love the entire piece of work and your signature! Great buck!
what county/city/town you hunting out of? Fellow Illinois bowhunter, working out of the Springfield area
We live and hunt in Madison County. Thanks for the kind words, it is appreciated very much. It's always great to hear from another bowhunter from the Land of Lincoln!

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments! I took the morning off after hauling that beast out of the woods yesterday. I figured I earned a morning off! Tomorrow morning, it's back after it to try to fill the doe tag!
