Tomorrow is going to be a full moon and a 50% chance of showers...Do any of you hunt, or have you hunted the early full moon? With everything becoming a lot about moon phases, I'm somewhat skeptic...I do believe it does have something to do with deer movement, but still have to take my chances. I have read that if the skies are overcast and possible rain, that the moon has little affect. I really would like to know what you guys think...

I know everyone has opinions about moon phase! Me I find the deer move all the same no matter what moon. I find it to be a more of a weather phase of movement than anything else.

Thanks dawg! Im going out regardless of the moon. And I do agree with weather over moon. Would you go out tomorrow in a little rain and full moon? Or should I say, are you?

i'd like to believe that the deer move more during the full moon and less in the daylight. I've read several articals with different takes on this subject. I personally have never seen a deer with a full moon, that I can remember. If the deer can see so better then one would think they would move around more at night. I'm simply guessing, but you can't kill anything unless you try. Best of luck you all. i'm letting my woods air out for 2 weeks before I revisit.

If I did not have to work I would be out there. The only time I really dont go out is when it is really hot. My property that I hunt most of the time is just a little funnel area. If it is to warm the deer dont get to me in time due to coming out of the timber later. Other than that if I have nothing else going on I am in the tree. I sat in a storm last year and killed a doe. Rain does not really bother the deer to much and a light rain sure wont bother them at all.

I am planning on going out this evening in Central Illinois and the forecast is calling for rain. I typically like to go out in those conditions. I feel as though it dulls the senses of the deer!

I'll tell you what, I'm super glad I came out this morning! In the stand right now and had 6 coyotes come through, too far for a shot, but got 3 on film. I just seen a few turkeys in the timber, and I hear thunder right now!

I didn't hunt today, but I got a chance to run out and move some cameras and trim some trees for better views. Anyway, there was a lot of deer movement last night on all of my cameras, plus I walked up to doe in the beans and she didn't bolt until I was 20 yards from her. I didn't bring my bow. I would't have shot her anyways. To many bulls on my property. They currently out number the does. I think most of the fawns last year were buttons. I have Three buttons that I no of this year.

I don't see many deer when there is a full moon, when/if i do, it seems to be later in the morning. The background noise of a light rain seems to calm deer, wouldn't be too concerned about that. I've snuck up on many deer while still hunting during light rain. Try the edge of a bedding area, or where mast is dropping. Just remember to stay downwind, and hunt slooowwww. Doesn't hurt to get a few hours in, definately not gonna see anything from the couch.

Your best bet would be to definetly use
    The terrain to your advantage!
Your technique to get in and on station then!
Otherwise, you are just enjoying nature!
    Which I enjoy too!
However, my goal is to be successful hunting my prey!
HardcoreHuntin has some very good info. here that will help!!!!!
    Do a search!

    Good Luck,
    Hunt'n is Good!!!!

I watch the moon phase charts for deer activity religiously, as I watch wind, and general weather. I pretty much hunt every day. I personally don’t count on moon phase activity to be the guideline for my hunting. For example last Fri and Sat it showed a 1 on 1 to 5 graph, 1 being low activity, 5 being good day to hunt. Well I saw more deer those 2 days then I have all season, combined. I saw 120+ deer in the field with some major feeding, 3 good fights, and just general deer moving all over, it was one of those magical evening hunts on what was supposed to be not a great day for a 4PM to 7PM hunt.
