I am contemplating doing an all day sit this week. With bucks finally starting to rub and the corn being out, how many of you will sit all day in week 3 of IL's bow season? Has anyone done it yet and if so did you see any midday movement? Has anyone been getting pics of midday movement? This Thursday it’s going to be in the low 30's in the morning. I am considering sitting all day, but I haven't decided if it's still too early for these All Day hunts. Anyone?
I usually start all day sits the last week of October-November. In my experience the 3rd week of October has been the slowest week of the season (except for right after the 2nd gun season).
I would also wait another couple of weeks. If you have a target deer that you have pinned to a certain bedding area and can set-up to catch him/her as they get up to get a bite to eat or drink....go for it. Otherwise, I think you will just enjoy watching the squirels bury nuts all day. best of luck whatever you decide to do! Are you hunting Bond county or another?
right on the border of Bond and Clinton the county line is walking distance from my property. I am planning an all day hunt this Saturday, since I haven't had a chance to hunt it since opening day, hopefully, I'll catch something moving around then?
While I usually wait to start al day sits a little, by all means go for it if you want to...you never know what could happen!
thanks I was just hoping that someone would reply stating that they have pic's of buck around noon. Oh well! I may just get there even earlier and check the cameras for day time movement then decide where I'll hunt then and there.
Has anyone ever herd of the pre rut? There may or may not be a buck out there you dont know about and this might be the week to smack em. Some of the oldest does come into estrous early, this week, and with the cold weather there could be an opportunity. I know last season I was setting a box blind, in the woods for 3 hours probably with a truck and trailer making noise and when we drove out came around the corner and a double drop got up and ran away with a big ass doe not 20 yards from my stand. Just saying you never know what lurks in your woods. I never saw that deer the rest of the season
I agree 100%. Yesterday I had 3 mature does come into about 35 yards munching on some acorns. All of a sudden out of nowhere a MONSTER 13pt buck came up over the hill. I couldn't get a shot because I was on the ground and he didn't hang around long. The does ran off so he followed. Very cool encounter and yet I am still mad about it today because he would have been my first buck and my first bow kill! Dang it!
I think there are a lot of factors to questions like these. I plan on doing most of the day hunts until gun season. Come in for late lunch then back out. I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to tag a wandering buck.
