Hey Guys, I am in Illinois but moving to MD in a few months. I was introduced to Bow Hunting through my in-laws who hunt Whitetail in Iowa and Elk in Colorado. I have always loved hiking and climbing and wanted another excuse to get outside and closer to nature. In addition, I am interested in filling my freezer with fresh well sourced meat (who knows what's at that grocery store lol). happy to be hear to learn from you guys. Making my way through the mounds of information is overwhelming and it will be great to get real life feedback.

    Matt

Where in MD? I grew up in Southern MD and there are some monsters down there.

We are looking all over but closer to DC in the Silver spring/ Rockville area. I hear great things, lots of great places to get outside 1-2 hours away. Please tell me i am not wrong!?!?!

Montgomery County has really good schools and great neighborhoods to raise a family. A lot of options for outdoor activity in MD, VA, WVA & PA that's 2 hours give or take from DC.

That is awesome. I have 2 little girls (6 and 3) so we are excited. I am going to miss the Midwest but this is great.

Welcome, and hate to say this but unless your moving to Md because of work (guessing Government) sense your looking in the outskirts of DC I wouldn't dare move there.

I grew up in Anne Arundel Co and lived there till 14yrs ago when we moved up here in Pa, I still make the daily 53mile 1 way travel to Baltimore City for work but moving out of Md was the best decision my Wife and I made. Not only can you get more housing for 10times the price but while those areas you mentioned are better then most they are high $$ housing, taxed upon taxed and even get taxed for Rain Run Off water....other then the hunting regulations which are by far too Liberal imho, even as a Hunter. I for the sake of moving wouldnt move there.

It does offer alot within a short days drive...you have the beach 1 way down Rt50 and then you have the Mountains up Rt70 the opposite side which from those areas you mentioned are 2hrs away on each side of the state.

Hope all works for you and your family....also don't know if you happened to look but parts of Carroll County are very nice as well, depending on if your looking to be close to work in the areas you mentioned it would be a liitle of a drive but there are parts like Mount Airy that are very nice.

For sure man, this is for work, definitely not a "move for the sake of moving" situation. My whole life I never had a more than 30 minute commute and of course the most important thing is for the kids to be in a good school district (without the expense of private schools). I am looking forward to learning more about the area and getting some good adventures in but I am going to miss the Midwest. I was only in Chicago for 3 years and NYC before that. The idea of having actual mountains in driving distance is enough to get me going.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to check out Mount Airy (is that the "beautiful Mount Airy lodge, only thing you have to bring is your love for everything"? Commercial). I know literally nothing about the area so every little bit helps.
