I've heard things about Ikea. Some bad, but mostly good. The closest one for me is in Schaumburg IL around an hour away. Any thoughts?
It all depends on what you're looking for, and what your taste is. Living 20 minutes away I've been there dozens of times - mostly when I was younger. Their stuff is relatively cheap and tends to not last a very long time if you're rough on things (which I am). I do still have a shelving unit I bought there when I was 19 and got my first apartment. It's held up alright. Personally, most of the stuff is not my style. You can find a few good gems from time to time though. And their pricing on artwork and photo frames is reasonable. If you're going be prepared to deal with lots of foreigners (mostly asians and europeans) and lots of gay dudes. They love that place.
been a few times back in MN, but i've never bought any furniture, which i think they are known most for. i picked up some silverware and a pillow. its huge and yes you'll have to deal with a crap load of people and both the times i was there LONG lines, that is if you can find the checkout (like a maze in there). pretty much like J-man said if their design suits you then have at it!
From the sounds of it........ this is not my type of place. I take it that their "style" is real modern?
you know what.... really so many different styles, just not me. if im buying furniture i'd like to think what i bought i can use for life, doubt some of the stuff would last more than 10 years.
We have both nearby. Athough I prefer Colder's to Steinhafels. The Ashley outlet has it's place as well. Just wanted to get a feel for they hype behind these Ikea.
Been there .....not impressed. They sell a lot of cheaper particle board type stuff. It's not long term stuff. I'd say most of it wouldn't make it through a 4 year college dorm. LOL You can buy some nick nacks but they too are not my type of stuff.
I have never been their, but my wife has. She found some good deals on drinking glasses and stuff like that.
