Here the information on my set up & a few arrows I tested. I’ll be shooting the Rage Hypodermics on the end of the Zombie Slayer arrows with the bow set on the performance setting. I went for the speed because I have a few places where I can get 40 & 50yrd shots. Not sure what bow you shoot but this can give you an idea of what speed is lost for small increase grain changes. I shoot 30”, so for instance if you shot this bow, you would be looking at about 30fps slow for the 3” shorter draw length. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Don’t discount outside diameter of your arrow in penetration equation on account of less drag. With that all said, those Easton slim arrows and FMJ are in my book great hunting arrows. Additionally, a cut on impact broadhead will help with penetration as well. @ 20 yards, there isn’t going to be much difference @ 25 yards that you can’t make a simple adjustment on the fly once you know your bow. I shot easton Axis for years...best arrows I ever used. probably killed 30 deer with them and a rage broadhead. @ 70#
If one really wants maximum arrow penetration attributable to just the arrow itself than the tapered shafts by Alaskan Bowhunting are the ticket...by design it decreases drag through the cavity the further it penetrates by eliminating shaft to target contact.
Thats what is nice abouth those brass inserts for the FMJ 5mm, they come as 75 but can be broke down to 50. Ive been debating on it. Shawn Jennings ProGold Easton FMJ 339 grains NAP Spitfire DoubleCross 100 grains 2017 Team 3 Shed Hunting 2017 Team 6 Turkey Hunting 2017 Team 5 Deer Hunting
I agree. First step is 125gr tips. Then another 10-25gr in weights. Carbon Express is the only company I can find that makes a 25gr weight collar that could be a no-fuss add on (not have to pull your current inserts, etc.) I also believe you are a little light poundage to be shooting a 2" mech head. 60 is right on the border. The NAP Killzone Low KE would be a better mech option, IMO. And no, I'm not a Rage hater. But I am also sympathetic to not wanting to buy a bunch of new stuff just to make what you have better. Throwing good money after bad, if you will. In the long run you may find it more cost effective and less mentally taxing to just drop the coin on some FMJs or Pile Drivers with heavy inserts and stick with the Rages. Less stuff to fuss with for sure. New 3 pack of 125gr heads will cost you ~$40-50. Dozen new Pile Drivers could be found for ~$60/6.
Never saw their merchandise. I’m more a Carbon Express, Easton kinda guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
