If you were given this map, and told here's 20 acres you can hunt, where would you look first? Your entering from the church side. And there's a creek at the bottom of the property... The fields included are planted in winter wheat or rye.... Now granted it's only 20 acres it wouldn't take long to cover the whole thing, but were looking at getting to hunt this piece maybe 2x a month or so... And with you knowledgeable map people, I'll take any advice I can get.
I would think along the creek would be a good spot to look. Looking for crossings, area where deer may be going to drink. Also, those areas that appear to be thickets- find some good areas between them and in woods food sources such as oaks, etc, and between them and the destination fields. Hard to beat the inside corner of a field for a new property.
Buckmaster, can you expand the map size so we can see a little bit of the surrounding areas, so that we can try to understand how they may tie into that 20 acres?
First place I'd be considering would be the the two inside corners along the treeline on the field off the road. Next I'd be getting in off the road on the top and looking for sign around the creek bed. Most likely you'll find some good trails. I'd be trying to walk off as much of that wooded area as possible to locate the trails being used and food sources. You may get lucky and find a nice funnel and with the right preperation can be a sweet ambush site. Won't know til you get in there to check it out though.
Bingo. Aaron....first place I'd look is at the surrounding properties. WHY are they (if they are) using your parcel? Then, go from there. BTW....call me, soon. Let's go hunting.
Aaron, add a wider view of the topo as well...thanks! 20 acres is big enough to kill multiple deer per year. I would love to have 20 acres to hunt of private land. Also, what do you know of the hunting pressure on the surrounding parcels?
This is in Franklin Co. known for topping out around 6,000+ deer a year on the harvest report. Ranked 4th place last year.
You got me there steve, I have no idea, this is a two hour drive for me, but I'll be making the trip about 2x a month or more, so might as well make the most of it, I assume the map is set correct and N is N and S is S...
Lol....awesome. I'll let you know if anything shows up at those suggested spots. Keem em coming guys. :D
i would check where the 168.83 red lines contacts the property. it looks kinda like a small funnel and it is close to the river so they might be using that area to move from field to field and up and down the river. try to find a tail there using, if there crossing the river
Aaron, here is the prevailing wind history for the area in October 2009, and November 2009. This might give you a heads up as to where to envision a stand. http://www.wunderground.com/weather...NO7&day=25&year=2009&month=10&graphspan=month http://www.wunderground.com/weather...NO7&day=25&year=2009&month=11&graphspan=month
