Need to log on or call Colorado DOW by April 5th (or postmarked paper applications by April 5th) if you are interested for this season!

Sooooooooooooo tempting but I can't swing It this year. It's a good thing I'll be away from a computer tomorrow.

Still not sure what this year will bring myself...but thought I'd at least apply for Elk Pref Point for the heck of it...will just hunt Over-the-counter if I get lucky enough to go this fall...

    Guys,

Due to the trip to Australia with Rob, I will not be around to archery hunt elk this year (bar the very last weekend, maybe). I will be setting up the full camp next year. That you can bank on.

    until then....

Dan - keep me posted on your Muley adventure as well. As soon as I stick an Elk - I think a high country Mulie will be next. Will you be hunting Mulie/Elk on the same hunt?

    Good Luck!

I'm going to hunt both. I'm taking a newbie elk hunter this year so I'll focus on getting him on an elk and if we run into a muley then I'll put a stalk on him. I run into muley's every year and it's been a few years since I shot one.

I put in for a unit. Does anyone know when we find out if we got drawn?

Applied for Unit 61, basically to build a point....did the PP for Mule Deer as that may be in my plans for next year as I have 4 points. Plan will be elk in an OTC Unit 65

Essentially did the same as you Rob, I know I'll NEVER get drawn for 61, so I put in for it, and then take the point and an OTC tag.... Started getting ready to go again this past week. Hiking a couple miles through the woods, about half of it with a little 50# ride-along was a nice walk, and fun to do with the kids..... The wife thinks I'm getting ready for SUMMER......LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW!!!! :D

I'm looking in SOUTHERN CO this year, thought about putting in for up in 23,24,33, but decided I want to build my points and venture south this time... Not 100% yet, but that's what I'm looking at.... I have 2 "possibles" that may go, but even if I have to go it alone again, I WILL!!! Last year just made me sick, and I can't do that again.... This year forward, I SHOULD be able to make it out every year as after this year, BOTH little ones will be in school, and the wife won't be able to hold that over my head...

    Doug,

Start looking into New Mexico, even though things will be different for 2012 in regards to the drawing allocations to non-residents, its a "Must Apply" state. Believe me when I tell you that hunting in the Gila is an experience that can not be duplicated.

Heck, if you get denied, then use Colorado as your back up
    Rob

I gotta find a partner at some point to go on these trips..... Most of my local buddies are fair-weather Whitetail hunters, and the effort for an ELK hunt is enough the it would likely kill them. Made that mistake in 2005, and the guy spent more time in camp than hunting because the mountains WHIPPED him.

Right now I'm torn between an area in Central CO, and the area right on the Colorado NM border, but it's gonna be a lot of boot leather to get in either area to get into them I suspect....
