I would get a couple of replica's, sell that bad boy and retire. Then I would be full time managing my land for wild life.
I like this thread. Definitely cool to see everybody's opinion on this! Personally, I would take as many pictures as possible, get a replica of the full body and another shoulder mount. Then I'd sell the legit antlers and whatnot. Personally, the amount of money made from a sale like that could be of much more use to me than a shoulder mount on the wall collecting dust. I also would keep it on the low initially but its inevitable that people will find out where it was shot. Mabye deal with a little press just to get out the true story of the harvest but not push my way into the media and try to look like a hero.
I'd sell it with the stipulation that it will never be entered into the boone and crocket record books, any other record keeping system but them. Then if shot on property I owned, sell that, then move west in search of a world record elk or mule deer, I think all whitetail goals would have been met and onto a new challenge!
My family and friends would enjoy the buck and the hunt. I'm not interested in entering my deer in the books. It would great to take a great buck and enjoy the deer! One thing can be said about Mitch, he didn't sell out for fame or money. I believe that he hunts for himself and not the record books. Seems everyone beat him up because he didn't want to beat his chest and tell everyone how great he is. It would be hard to be as humble as he is with his success. That seems to rub people wrong rather than if he went on tour with his bucks and sold out to some company. Telling everyone that you can get a monster if you use this product.
Right now there's a buck that was killed in Indiana in the past season that the B/C club is checking out that supposed to have been scored at 309". If so it will be the largest scoring white tail ever killed by a hunter. http://www.hoosierhunting.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/1/6627.html
I wouldn't mind making money off it. I do have a family and hobbies to support. I'd like to have a replica made though and tons of pics. Then I'd call around and see if I could get my own hunting show. Or maybe just hang out with Lee and Tiffany on theirs. I'm easy. lol
I truly want to believe this about Mitch but now he put up a website to show off all his trophies. Hard to believe a humble guy who doesn't want to boast would do this. I do believe his deer is real and a WR, I think his past with Boone and crocket has more to do with the story than him wanting to be anonymous.
I would bide my time and listen to offers for the story, endorsements, mount, ect. If the total amount I could get was enough to really change my life, I'd sell out and go for it. If not I would just cherish the memory and be perfectly content.
Like the post above me said, If i could get enough money to where it would change my life and I would be able to retire, yes I would sell that bad boy and get some replicas made. If not, then hes going in my future man cave.
Well seeing as the way things are these days and you'd be pretty hard pressed to not draw attention I'd do what I could to share it with fellow hunters and outdoorsman. As far as selling it yea I probably would to bass pro or a place like that, I don't think the money would be life changing but would help out more than jus staring at a head on the wall and you'd still get a replica. Other than that there'd be lots of meat on the grill and beer in the cooler at camp.
I'd document the heck out of the kill. Hold out for the highest bidder, get my replicas made and hopefully find some company willing to put me on their pro staff.
well to start off i dont even think i could draw back my bow! and if i did id probably fall out of the tree stand trying to shoot the dang thing!
I laugh when people think they'll get enough money from killing a WR to retire. Personally, I'd most likely license the rights to someone to make replicas and collect royalties from it.
