If you had to write a hunting article, what subject do you think you could write about in pretty good detail? I am not talking about being an "expert" I simply talking about writing something you are pretty good at doing in the hunting realm. It could be something like making your own arrows, sharpening broadheads, locating deer in the hills, hunting mature bucks, rattling techniques, cresting arrows, talking about quality hunting clothing, experience with travelling and hunting, etc. I think it would be pretty cool if we could "put together" the knowledge of the forum. Even if you don't think your info will be well received, it is received nonetheless. One of the best ways to learn is to teach someone else. Just some thoughts. When I get home later I think I am going to put together a little piece on just deer hunting in the big woods (not Canadian big, but 50,000 acres big), the kind of hardwoods that just stretch on for miles and miles. I will be talking about locating deer, not big bucks, "just" deer. I think it might help some people out, others not so much. I would love to hear bout some things that you all know about in detail. Feel free to post on here about what you know, or feel encouraged to write about it on the main board. I like to read things from you guys. Thanks. Brett
Hmmm...I had to think about this one a little. Here are the best topics I could come up with. 1. How to not kill older bucks. 2. Is 1.5 the new 4.5? 3. Hunting Dog Funnels. 4. Fastest way to get out of a tree when the farmer is about to bulldoze it over. 5. Do horses spook deer? 6. How to use the farmer to your advantage when he drives a truck through the woods at primetime. I guess looking at those topics, maybe my best contribution would be how to not loose your head when everything is going wrong.
1. Is the hunting community over obsessed with "racks"?... ehh sorry... I mean antlers. I strongly believe that as a whole, the over obsession with antler size these days is detrimental to our sport. 2. Making hunting more simple and you will enjoy yourself more in the woods. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Relax out there and enjoy your time instead of getting frustrated things are not going the way you hoped. One thing I do that may or may not hurt my chances is to bring a thermos of coffee with me on morning sits. I enjoy it so much on crisp mornings having some warm coffee while the sun rises. Even if I am hurting my chances, the enjoyment and relaxation I get from it is worth it to me.
Broadheads. It seems like if someone puts up a forum asking the question of what kind or type they are using, then they get a million answers and reasons why they use that one.
Not all that experienced yet but i think ETHICS play a large role in who the hunting community is as a whole. I think that might be the only thing I could be experienced enough to post on. As for anything else I could spend all day reading and taking in any tips you all have to give. Information is one thing you can never have enough of.
I could write a pretty good article on how to set up on a turkey based on how you receive the bird. I could write a pretty good article on preparing for a hunting trip, gear and mentally wise. I could write a very novice article on basic stalking skills and what to NOT do while stalking game.
I could write an article about rattling. A few stories about when it worked well, and several instances where I busted my hands, dropped the antlers, or flat out spooked the deer.
Anything about hunting I WILL talk about! Just ask the wife! HE HE HE I see a buddy in the store and then the wife says "Forget about your dad he will be there when we are done shopping!" LOL
See, I like that Ben. Unique. Each of us has something pretty cool we could talk about that can help others.
Finding reasonably good hunting grounds without ever spending a dime. The King's guide to hunting above-average deer on a below-average budget.
I'd be very interested in reading about that as well as the original post about locating deer in the big woods. Shaping up to be a great thread!
