    What would it be?

heres a question for you guys,

Would you rather hang a setup on a GREEN bean field, or an overgrown alfalfa field?

    Thats my great debate today...

I have both availible, and 1 more setup to hang (as of now). Which one do you think the deer would use more from now until Octobe 15th or so...?

I honestly wouldn't setup on either if I was looking to score on a buck. I'd be a bit more focused on bedding, and small browse types of stuff immediately next to core bedding. Just MHO.

If I was trying to kill a doe, I'd be wherever I was seeing their movement most. I've never hunted beans, so I don't know how they move on them this time of year.

    Alfalfa..1

    Beans...0

Thanks Germ, i hunted the particular alfalfa field probably 20-25 times last year, saw alot of deer, lost a doe, and filmed Freak Daddy in it. And that was right AFTER it had been seeded.

I would probably choose a "green" bean field over "overgrown" alfalfa. But, if the alfalfa were cut recenlty then it's a tougher call.

The beans around my area are drying out now so deer are heading towards alternatives like alfalfa and corn.

RJ, my main goal right now is actually to harvest (film) some does. Any buck sightings would be a positive. Ill be moving deeper into the timber in mid-October, and using mock scrapes.

On my particular peice of ground, the beans were panted WAY late, and are still really green. All the other feilds are brown.

Does and young bucks are drilling the oats and cut alfalfa and hay fields in the valleys during the daylight, the bucks I have been seeing in the daylight are staying up high/elevation browsing real heavy in the 10-15 year old logging clearcuts. Tons of native thick browse. I am gonna be hunting a high mountain cut this evening.

The blue dot is where i already have a stand intercepting a trail going too/from the fields...

These are my 2 main grounds and are seperated by a road. Hope this helps.

I would be more concerned with what is around these fields rather than what is planted in them....

Both have bedding areas close by..both have ponds/creeks in the direct vicinity. Both have a valley either directly north or south of them. They are pretty much the same layout, just one with beans and the other with alfalfa.

There is always something that makes one place a better sit than another for a certain days conditions. Figure that part out and have fun out there. :)

If the beans are green I would leave them alone. Around here the deer don't seem to like them until they turn brown. I heard it's a bitter taste when there not ripe. Not sure if it's true or not but I still don't see them in the beans until they are brown.

I would setup on the beans. I hunted food plots all weekend and the day before got a lot of pics of small bucks and does. These food plots are winter wheat, mixed with clovers, and other stuff. It seems to me that the acorns are dropping really good now here and they are feeding on them and not in the food plots. I hunted a public land spot last night and saw 5 in the beans. I would hunt the beans til they turn brown. After that they dont use the beans very much.

Set up near the beans, unless you have a better wind for the alfalfa.
