    to hunt...would you still hunt?

Yesterday I lost one of my hunting properties leaving me with one place to hunt. Tomorrow they are calling for a SW wind, but I need a west or north wind for this place. Would you just try to be as scent free as possible and hunt? Maybe use some form of cover scent? I just cannot think of a way to make a SW wind work for me here.

I am really in a tight spot because this place is an hour away so basically the only time I can hunt it is the weekends since I cant make it there after work.

Depends on where the deer are coming from. If they are comming from the SW then you have a window of opportunity to get a shot before they wind you but if they are comming from the north or east side then I would wait.

The nice thing about my portable setup is that I can hunt the same spot with different winds. Like where I was yesterday for instance. West wind so I got on the east side of where I expected the deer to come from. I was close but not close enough (new spot, never hunted before). If it would have been an east wind I could have just set up on the "other side". Is it possible to hunt "the other side" of this place?

I can more then likely fix the east/west issue (being I use a climber), its the south part that is the killer. Especially in the evenings.

Get really high in the tree if you are going to hunt.

With the other place I had, I had a place (or 2) for every type of wind you could think of. But as of 3pm yesterday, they decided to contract that land to loggers and they dont want any hunters there, so I'm screwed there.

If my options were to hunt a bad wind or stay home, I'm hunting. I don't have enough time to skip a chance to hunt.

It all depends...on a few places I hunt, I use the "if I don't they will" mindset. I don't hunt it alone, and the other guys DANG sure don't care about the wind. Just because I pass on a bad wind doesn't mean they will, and the deer will be spooked just the same. On this piece, I'd chance it anyway.

That said, I have enough access now to where I can hunt SOMEWHERE with any wind, the spot might seemingly suck, but atleast the conditions would be right.

I would not hunt a bad wind. If you educate the deer, your chances will go down dramatically even with the right wind.

No way would I hunt a bad wind, think outside of the box and figure out a way to use the wind to your advantage. Hunting a bad wind will only reduce your chances overall of killing a deer on that property. If its a mature deer you are after, 1 bad wind hunt=game over.

I didn't hunt this morning because the wind was out of the West...which is the only dam wind direction that I have so answer for in the woods I hunt.

Wind comes out of the N or S the vast majority of the time around here.

I have many more sits ahead of me this Fall so I won't take a chance on screwing things up this early on.

If I were someone who has little time to hunt and not many options...I guess I would go out no matter what the wind is doing.

One of my favorite areas, which is small, I can only hunt with a southerly or east wind. So I have to pick my time wisely as should you. If you are going to chance a bad wind your chances are better in the morning when warming thermals(in most cases) should help a little. Good luck.

I do not hunt bad winds.

    I don't care if it's the 12th of November.

    No joke.

Unless you're able to hunt everyday of the year, HUNT IT !!

Just because the wind is blowing to teh deer, does not mean you're automatically going to get winded.

Shower with some kind of scentless soap, use unscented deodorant, spray your gear down, clip a scent wafer to your hat and head on in.

Go slow...Keep cool...Let us know what you kill.....

This time of year, through patterns out the window and just stick close to the doe.
