given good conditions and an unalert deer, sure... I don't shoot 1" groups at that distance, but, I can consistently put 'em in the boiler room at that distance... i'd pull the trigger at 40, but I would only do that if it was a deer worth taking the chance on .....

If conditions are perfect, the deer doesn't know I there, there's no trash in the way and I know the exact distance, maybe. A few years ago, after shooting 3D a summer, I had a shot at a doe at about 40 yds. I had to thread my arrow between two trees that were half way between me and the deer. I knew I could squeeze my arrow between those trees; the guys in the 3D club would set-up some really crazy shots. I held my 40 pin on her vitals and squeezed. There was only one problem, she was 42 yds. I shot low and just barely graised her. No blood and just a small bit of hair. At that distance, if I can't range one first I won't shoot. 30 yds or less, let'em fly.

Big Buck broadside 40 yrds. Everything is Perfect. My arrow would fly with Confidence, But that's as far as I would take it. I shoot pretty good groups out to sixty yrds but to me there are to many things that could potentially go wrong at that yardage. We should all know our limitations and stay within them! Shooting in our backyard is a far cry from the Heat of the Moment. Heart pounding,Thoughts running through your head, Im sure you know the feeling and what I mean.
But everyone is Different and handle things in a Different way. Its all up to You!

I try to keep my shots no more than 20 yards. Personally I think too much could go wrong past 20. I know from experience. I shot at a great doe last year just passed 20 yards and hit a small twig that I never saw was there when I cleared the shooting lane. Hit the twig, made a bad hit, never recovered the deer. We owe it to the animal for a clean quick kill.

I did kill a buck a 35 yards once but I am ussually within 25 yards my shots.

Watching hunting shows I have seen deer move ALOT before an arrow reaches them from 40+ yards.

These days I tend to limit my range at 30 yards for whitetails but that is just my personal preference.

I like my shots to be within 30 yards. If the conditions were right, I'd shoot an animal at 40. I shot a coyote at 45 last year, but I only did it because he wasn't aware I was there, there wasn't a cross wind, and he was standing still

If the shot conditions are right, and its not coming closer ill shoot to 50 yds. My groups at 40 yds are consistently 4-5" and 6" at 50 yds.

My furtherest deer was shot at 42 yrds and he ran less than that. Furtherest turkey was at 50 yds and he didnt go anywhere.

What are you trying to say there buddy ? I' dont start fights, I'm passionate about hunting, albeit I dont get to hunt much, anymore. I'm painfully honest and kind in my posts....I may be a bit opinionated and tell it like it is, but, thats not a bad trait.

So, what is this "entertainment" that you speak of ? I'm REALLY interested to know !!

Unless this is a different DropTine249,( than the one who disappeared from HNI) which I am guessing it's not. We have some entertaining posts ahead. That's not a bad thing. Just have to take it for what it is. I don't doubt your passion DT, but some of the stuff that comes off your finger tips is "entertaining."

Understood. I can absolutely see why someone would question that. Heck, I questioned a fellow racers ability to jump a 130' triple, that he claimed to jump with ease- until I saw him do it. Then, my foot was burried rather deep within the confines of my esophagus.

I can appreciate the dis-belief. In fact, I dont slap shafts at those ranges with EVERY arrow, but, and this statement could be backed up if I had personal friends on this site, I shoot very well and am capable of shooting the way I have claimed to shoot.

Dont get me wrong- I didnt pick up a bow for the first time and destroy flecthing at 60yards. I praticed my butt off like you wouldnt(or maybe you would) believe. So I have no problem with voicing my ability. However, like you're getting at- if I cant proove it, I'll have to deal with the criticism, or keep my mouth shut.

I can pull photos off of my lap-top all day of super tights groups that I shot out to 60+yards, but that doesnt proove the range, only the group.

Well, it is what it is. If you're entertained by my posts, that great. I have no issue voicing my abilities, opinions and possibly extraordinary life experiences. Im confident and honest. So, be ready to be "entertained" by my "finger tips".....

um not usually my kind of shot..I may take that in an open field from a ground blind at a relaxed deer...but I really would not hope for it...I can shoot groups of 1" at 40 yds, I can shoot 4" at 40 which can still be deadly, but I hope Im not faced with this.
