So let's say in some pathetic gruesome world, firearms were banned. Would the gun ban activists move on to trying to ban archery?

It would be a harder sell to the general public imo. People see people being killed by other people with the use of firearms everyday on the news. That tends to affect the emotional type thinkers into blaming the gun rather than the person. I doubt the gang bangers will start running around with bows ;).

Are bows safe for the foreseeable future from major attacks? Obviously "they" have bigger fish to fry right now but if they ever won the battle and did get guns to be banned would they target a different weapon?

I believe so. Here is my reasons. In the UK, hunting was the hobby of the elite. Land to hunt was hard to get. Only people that could hunt was the elite. So the general population decided its bad.

Lots of folks in MD are supposally anti-bow but pro-gun. I don't believe it. One guy in particular writes up an article every year in the baltimore sun saying bow hunting is cruel but gun is the way.

Hense over in the UK and most of europe, they hunt only with guns and archery outlawed.

The gang bangers wouldn't have to resort to bows and arrows.

    They'd still have guns.

Your right. I fell victim to my own hypothetical situation.

Never. Maybe not so much from the anti-gun activists as from the PETA type of people. If you love this sport it's a never ending job to protect it.

"Are bows safe for the foreseeable future from major attacks?"

I would say don't count on it. Many opposed to hunting are not necessarily opposed to guns. And bowhunting is seen as especially cruel by many of the anti-hunting crowd, since the animal may not be killed immediately. Looking at the recent Supreme Court decisions, it's clear that guns are not about to be banned in this country in the foreseeable future. Hunting, on the other hand is a different matter. The Constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms, it doesn't protect the right to use them to hunt. And the Constitution says nothing at all about archery.

The PETA folks are doing a great job of educating kids that hunting is cruel and inhumane and that bowhunting is especially cruel. It isn't enough that we have PETA as an enemy, we seem to delight in creating enemies within our own family. Traditional v. Compound. Compound v. Crossbow. Bowhunter v. Gunhunter. Fair Chase v. High Fence. Oh Yes! I'm sure there are a substantial number of bowhunters who simply wouldn't care if gun hunting were banned, as well as a substantial number of gun hunters who wouldn't care if bowhunting were banned. Please note that someone in this thread offered the hopeful comment; If guns were banned, "Would archery season get longer?"

I'm only a teenager and I knew nothing about hunting until I was sixteen. But it's plain to me if we don't start realizing that we have more in common with each other, despite our different methods, than we have with PETA, we are going to eventually lose our hunting rights, little by little. Someone from Scotland posts on another site where I am a member. Bow hunting is banned in Scotland. Why? Because it's seen as cruel. Could it happen here? You betcha it could. And our failure to stand together and support our right to hunt, even though we hunt differently, will hurt us all in the end.

You could only kill 1 person at a time, and at close range to boot. This fact in itself makes the public less afraid of bows. Guns can kill in varying degrees of numbers and distances in my opinion.

Nope the bows would be the next on the list by the anti's and the progressive liberals. They don't want you to be able to defend yourself in any way, shape or form. They want you totally dependent upon the government for everything.

Bows will be gone before rifles/shotguns.
