I wouldn't say you got hacked or that you had identity theft, I would say someone just got your credit card number. It has happened to me twice. I have certain alerts set on my credit cards (only two) and I also check my credit union account fairly often. One time I saw charges on my debit card happening in England for train tickets and such. I called the 800 number, let them know fraud was happening and they stopped the card. Sent me a new card and that was that. The second time they actually called me and asked if I was making certain charges. I said no, they stopped the card. Sent me a new card and that was that.

This is one of the reasons interests rates are what they are on credit cards. To pay for the fraud. I would recommend that everyone set limit alerts on their credit cards if they have them.

It's not a Credit Card per say .. it is a bank card that can be used like a credit card, but it comes right out of my bank account

So I believe that qualifies for IT and Hacked ... it blows either way

Happened to me a few years back. They somehow got ahold of my debit card #. Luckily I caught it fairly early and there was only 2 minor transactions. Makes u feel violated for sure. I hated it. They never caught who used my card #. :(

I am sorry you are going through this. It happens all the time, especially to Senior Citizens:poke: that seem like easy prey.

Someone stole my identity once... "They sent it back with a sympathy card!":tu:

I am glad you caught it and I hope the perp gets caught.

Happened to us with our credit card a few years ago. They took off the charges so it didn't cost us anything but it sucked.

Wow someone had to be real desperate to pretend they were you.

PT has happened to me twice in a span of like 10 years. Once while in high school and again just a year ago or so. I noticed both times very quickly has I get mobile alerts of any transactions over a certain limit (annoying at times yes, but worth it). First time they got like $300 and the second time only like $200. All new cards, changed passwords and blah blah blah each time.

The sad truth is our only real defense against this stuff is the sheer number of people in the world or only having cash, and not using banks.
