Looking to put some things together for next yr's gtg. Send me some ideas of what you'd like to see next yr. How were the prizes? what would you like to see for prizes? Did you think it was a fair shoot for most people? Should we have a few more of the poker style shoots?, where accuracy isn't the necessity, but rather luck is what levels out the playing fields for those that don't shoot alot and give them an opportunity to win some stuff. What about menu, okay with what we had? what would you like to have? How do feel about being charged for the shoot? this would allow us to get better 3-D targets How far in advance do you need to know when this is happening? later this yr/early next yr? We would like to make this bigger & better next yr. Thanks to all those that came & made it a success. To those NEasters, annie up and make it out here next yr!
My only thing is I would like to know a date for is as soon as possible so I can block it off on the calender. If everything falls right, I plan to make the trip next year.
ok, first things first... the OK boys will be leaving the liquor at home for the bonfire the night before.... I've personally got no problem with a modest fee to cover target expenses and etc... my wife has tentatively agreed to come out during the Saturday event and do some nice photography for us and make the pics available online at no charge to anyone (I recently bought her a very nice camera outfit with several lenses and etc and she's been looking for opportunities to build her skills toward one day going pro as she has always dreamed of)... depending on turnout, it might be nice to have a couple kids events for the 14-under crowd, I'm going to try to bring my boys to the saturday event if they are not in AL with gramma and grampa... I thought the prizes and etc this year were great... maybe add a couple different raffles or some 2nd/3rd prizes in the big raffle?? I couldn't stay for the food cuz I had a bday party to be at, but it sure smelled good coming in... I would volunteer this coming year to have a couple of nice kegs of homebrewed beer for after the shooting events... in order to have it ready I need about 3 months notice for this reason... depending on turnout I could have between 10-20 gallons (2-4 different kinds, 5 gal each)... obviously I would defer to Todd/Justin to make the final decision on whether or not that is appropriate for the post-shooting social event (it would be donated at no charge to anyone)
I would like to see a small swimming pool filled with carp that have laser beams on their fricken heads so that Christine would show up and save us from their evil wrath. A breathalyzer at the campground and at least three viable drinking references for new campers. A moving target that requires one to draw and shoot, instead of drawing and focusing for several minutes while the rest of us remind them we aren't shooting against Dan McCarthy. Large Thunderdome like contraption for us to settle long standing forum disputes. A contest that can once and for all determine who the REAL UNDISPUTED KING OF ARCHERY is so we can stop putting up with false claims from forum users from the East Coast. A Bols Clause, this would basically allow a forum member or two to kidnap him if he isn't in Garden Prairie by high noon on Friday.
i love the moving target idea. i think the gtg. was awesome prizes food everything. and the coarse could use nicer targets so a fee applied would be justifiable for targets before the shoot. maybe there should be brackets pro and amateur, because there were some awesome shooters there who new they were taking home something, that gives us amateurs a chance at a win as well.....imo...
The food was good, but the sandwiches the night before were the G.O.A.T. :D I like the moving target idea A modest fee wouldn't bother me A "SevenMag" clause, meaning anyone who cant handle their liquor and passes out must where a special shirt the next day at the shoot ...Oh and don't forget, The annual Fergus bonfire on Friday night this year will be on my 20th birthday, so i expect gifts and whatnot :D
I think putting the shooters in peer groups of like skill is a great idea, so that you have your better shooters in a group competing among themselves, along with the mid level and lower level guys. This gives guys from each skill level a good chance to get into the finals instead of one higher end shooter cleaning out a shooting group of lower level shooters. It also helps the guys that are just not that serious to move along at a faster pace, without getting frustrated, while your more serious shooters can take their time if they desire. I've shot quite a few regional smackdown style events that use this peer grouping method, and it works quite well. It's pretty easy to seperate into peer groups by skill with a quick qualifying round of 10 arrows at a set distance, say 30 yards or so on a field archery target. Take the top 33% of the qualifying scores, and split into groups of 4 shooters, mid 33% and put into groups of 4, and lower 33% and put into groups of 4. You will see a much wider spread of experience levels advancing further into the competition and give your mid and lower end shooter a serious chance to bring home a trophy or prize in nearly every event. Just my thoughts, take it for what it's worth. If you guys like this and want help to plan/make it happen, I'd be happy to help.
Smaller prizes for the guys that have to take them home on a plane.:D We need to get some targets set up in the swamp. Everyone needs to experience the mosquito clouds back there. Food is fine. Paying to shoot at newer targets is OK by me.
I agree with rick james on one about shooting in different classes and having a shoot off at the beginning to set the groups, also i would like a little smaller groups. I took my group a while to get through with eight guys in it.
8, that's just crazy. Why wasn't it two more groups of 4? Was this actually a course or just one spot, shoot a lot of targets?
Im fine with a small fee toward targets and such since im sure this is going to be an every year event. The food was great!! Id most like to see more people, but im sure that # will grow every year If anybody is interested i can build an Iron painted brick wall out of 1/8" X 3' X 3' steel plate that has one brick missing with target foam in its place (If anyone dares shoot at it :D) It will be donated and stay at the club house. How about some kind of money round where anyone that wants to can put in a dollar and winner takes the pot ?? The drawings were great also. I found out later that i missed meeting some members that i didnt know were there. I think the very first unofficial year we did this thing was a good idea to go around and introduce ourselves. Im thinking football will now be a part of camp and possable wiffleball There needs to be some bibs handy at the bonfire incase of uncontroled drooling on ones self :D possable some depends (ya never know)
Put in a fee target/course where the money would go to Benefit4Kids. (novelty targets or pop-ups or something) I may try to get up there next year. (even if there aren't any carp.) :D
I like that one too........you wouldn't believe the hassle I got at the airport. They considered my rock a "blunt object" that could be used as a weapon........ After waiting an hour in line to get through baggage check in, and then security.....I had to head back to baggage check in to check a second bag with my rock in it and start all over. I gotta say though, now that I got it home, it's one of the coolest trophies I've got. It would be a bit cooler if it said 1st place on it though.... :D
cmon, now, all you have to do to earn a clause is to do something in a very colorful manner!!!! ie the fergie clause, and now the bols clause and the sevenmag clause.... welcome to the club brotha!!!!
