Started scouting a new property an it was just loaded with big buck tracks. Trying to get an estimate on how old or big he is by the track if possible
Controversial to say the least. My opinion is there's no way to tell anything by a buck's track other than a guesstimate on body weight based on the freshness of the track and state of the soil when it was made. Deer are unique individuals, some have naturally bigger feet than others. I've seen old brutes with small dainty feet and young medium sized deer with big feet. You'd be guessing based completely on a perceived "average size" at best and that's going to change drastically by area of the country and sometimes even between areas in the same state. I've even heard and read that you can't necessarily tell between a doe and a buck track (though I disagree). I've got a gross score 168" 14 point on the wall here that was an older deer based on tooth wear but he had a medium sized body and small feet like a 2.5 year old...just as an example. I've also got a 4.5 year old 8 point that grossed about 125 that had as big a foot as you'll likely ever see and was about as much as two men want to try to load in the truck (didn't weigh him).
its going to look a little bigger in the mud, but its either a big deer track or your hands are smaller than Donald Trump's.
