Well, I am back from my elk hunting trip in northern Idaho. And I could not start out without first thanking my good bud Troy & his wife Dee. Two of the nicest, most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Thanks again. I'll save the drama and get down to it. I lost a nice bull my first morning there. I could not have been more sure of the shot, but for reasons unknown to me, it didn't work out. If y'all don't mind,I really don't feel like re-living the details on the open forum. That out of the way, I was elk hunting, & getting to do so with my good friend. Sharing time on the mountain with friends is a lot of what it's about and that makes my trip. The weather dealt us a pretty difficult hand, but (obviously) we managed to over come that and still get about 5 really good encounters with elk & Troy was drawn on several bulls himself. We saw 3 moose, 2 of which were bulls and some really slammer whitetails. A couple of the elk encounters were ones that gave you goose bumps being right in the thick of it. Pix to follow

Very neat. Idaho is definitely a state I want to hunt. Amazing scenery. Sorry to hear about your bull, but it seems you still had a great time.
Great pics Ryan, Kudos to Troy and family for putting up with you :D Man sorry to here you lost your bull. But it happens!! sounds like you had a great time!!
Great pics and good to hear you had a good time bro. No sense living in the past, man. If you've hunted long enough, you've been down that road. And if it hasn't happened to any of you folks, if you keep hunting long enough, it will. Etch it in the memory bank and move on. Beautiful country out there, but I just wanna know who the two ugly mugs are in the pictures. Looks like the Idaho State Penitentiary started a prison-release hunting program! Again bro, glad you had a good time, and one of these years, I'll join you boys. Life experiences man. That's what it's all about.
Thanks guys, despite the misfortune with the bull, the trip was still as awesome as can be. Oh, & Gary...you are so dead in the challenge thing.:D
Sounds like an awesome trip. Thanks for sharing the good stuff with us. Losing animals ain't fun, but ya can't dwell on it. Sounds like you got the important part of the trip down. Love to head out there someday.
Welcome home Ryan. Great pictures. Elk are amazing, amazing and hardy. Season opens in a less than a week brother.
Wish that bull would have worked out for you, Ryan. You deserve one on the wall. Shrug it off though, bro. It happens to everybody that enjoys this sport. What an amazing trip with spectacular pics! Glad you had great experience and made it home safe. Time to put some deer down! :D
Sounds like another great trip out West Ryan. I will hunt those monsters again some day. Matbe I'll se you out there some time.
Sorry to here about the elk. Idaho is awesome! I hope to hunt there some day. Besides the elk, it must have been an incredible experience. Cool pics, Thanks for posting them.
Glad to hear you guys had a good time! And YES, predator camo rocks!!! How come you weren't wearing any?
Great pics. Thanks for sharing. If it was easy, it wouldn't be any fun. And there's not much about elk hunting that is easy.
Ryan, man, I feel your pain (many times). There is nothing easy about elk hunting even when you think you've killed them. I could tell you horror stories from past experiences-I won't. I 'm glad your home safe and had a wonderful time out west! Chin up partner!
