I wonder how they realized this was happening. Lines all of sudden had an angle to them? Depth started changing on the flasher? Must of been an erie feeling either way.
From some of the pictures I saw, they were only 100 yards off the shore and the water opened up about halfway between about 20 feet wide. Nothing too major the way it sounds compared to some of the rescue stories like on LOW but I saw a few people complaining that it interrupted their day of fishing. Really? They're the idiots that got themselves into the situation.
I am thinking about buying one of the smaller portables, my wife may go with on occasion so I need room for two should I go with the sled type or the units that are not sled mounted? Just looking at day trips, I love frying up fresh ice crappies.
I must be in the wrong place because there's still a bit of open water on the lakes I fish. I don't feel comfortable going on the ice if I can still see open water.
Depends how much you want to move around. I absolutely love my Eskimo Fatfish 949i. Can easily fish three and a buddy heater isn't necessary most days since it's insulated but you could fish in shorts and t shirt with a heater going in that thing. I had a crappy old Frabill I took apart and use that as a sled that easily fits portable, chairs, heater and gear. Go check one out! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
As greatwhitehunter said, It all depends on how much you want to move around. If you want to be mobile, then the sled mounted flip overs are probably the way to go. If you know where you are going and plan to spend a few hours at one place then the pop up kind will give you more room, Cheaper too. If you are willing to drive your vehicle on the ice then a sled is not really necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Obviously the time/situation affects the use of certain jigs, but what is your go to jig for ice fishing walleyes? I've always had excellent luck with the Northland Buck-Shot Spoons.
I have a friend that lives on the lake every year we say we are going to do the HOF in Canton and get after the fish, perhaps this summer.
Foolproof for me. Have pink, green and blue. Pink is usually hottwst on lakes i fish. Only time I have much luck with anything with a treble hook is stop signs on LOW. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I don't think we'll have ice on Lake Erie for awhile. We were catching perch right off the pier by the bayfront last week. (I live right on the shore).
What in the world is it? Have never seen one. Last weekend we were getting the majority of fish to bite on small jigs... Jigs we use for panfish and crappies. That caused us to miss a lot of fish. I don't have a big variety of small jigs so I'm looking around. I'm liking what Clam has out - If anyone has any other suggestions let me know.
Don't know where I got them at. I need to find someone that knows what the are. Seriously the best I've ever used. For small jigs, I have some awesome tungsten ones from Jammin Jigs.
Heading to Red Lake again this weekend - Leaving tonight after work. Will be sure to document this trip with pictures!
