Will be out this wknd possibly in Michigan to at least aug a hole and check thickness. Cant wait to make me some pike tacos!
I only own two tip ups, I mainly go for the food and beer aspect of ice fishing. If the cold weather keeps up, we should be good to go by January.
Forgive my ignorance, but is it not incredibly boring sitting in frigid temps staring down at an 8" hole in the ice waiting for your pole to move?
Not at all. Usually I'm sitting in a shanty that's heated with a handful of other knuckleheads. I'm usually a tipup fisherman so I just sit inside and drink beer and hang out until a flag pops. It's a great way to have some beers and hang out with good friends.
If I ice fished that way, it would be quite boring. We usually have a bon fire on shore, propane grill on the ice, more beer than we know what to do with, and a speaker system to play music. Pretty much a party on the ice with the possibility you may catch a fish with a tip up.
Don't knock it til you try it! I could do it every day if I had the chance whether I'm standing on the lake, in a portable or in a house. 1,000,000 times better than open water fishing to me.
Its a good time. Something to do to cure the boredom of winter. I pretty much only fish for pike and musky, so when I get a flag the possibilities are endless.
This post summed up true ice fishing pretty well. I actually enjoy ice fishing more than fishing out of a boat.
Tembry it's kind of like the dog hunter down by you. When I lived in GA we would meet in the morning run the dogs go back to the club house butcher deer and drink beer well us kids would go out hunting or riding quads the adults drank and we sometimes made it out for an afternoon run
You'd have a blast in Ontario with us. Cold as ****, but fun as hell catching a pile of walleyes. If the women can handle it, so can you.
