Took a shot at a giant whitetail Saturday night. I saw a doe being chased by a massive 8 pt. He gave me a chance at 30 yards but the doe saw me draw. She snorted and ran with him in tow so I grab the grunt tube and let out a tending grunt. Wasn't a minute and this other bruiser busts out and is running right for me. By the time I got him stopped he was broadside at about 5 yards!!! He was 12 maybe 14 point, over 20" wide, and had mass to spare, by far the biggest buck I've ever seen in the wild. Well I messed up on the shot and sent the arrow clean across his back. Not sure what I did but all I managed to do is take a little fur and meat off his back. I did just talk to a guy here at work that owns some bordering property and he said he and his buddy saw the same bucks dogging a doe about and hour after I shot. I'm glad he's no worse for the wear but man I'm bummed, he was a once in a lifetime deer.
Yep you got that right, lol! Going back to the same stand tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get another peak at him at the least. If not just maybe our paths will cross during gun season or even next year. It's just tough getting past it. I've been bow hunting for 23 years and he was the first buck of this caliber that has given me the chance, believe he's in the 160s. I've hunted everyday this week and every time I climb into a tree all I can think of is what might have been but that's huntin
Most of us have been there. Now if your wife/girlfriend get you a statue that looks like the deer you shot at not knowing for Christmas then you are in my boat. Wife did that to me and I about got mad! I knew that she did not know what he looked like. LOL
