Oh I know, but it's the only rationale I can come up with. Like I said, I, nor anybody else, understands how the mind of Les Miles works.
Smith had a GREAT DEFENSE that got him the ball back, a pretty good running game, and FIVE receivers who were drafted in the NFL draft....... With that sort of supporting cast, I could have been the QB!!!
At least you're honest. Maybe Lee plays better when the pressure of the entire game isn't on his shoulders? Maybe having to prepare for both QBs is giving opposing teams problems? Maybe Lee only executes part of the playbook well? Who knows. The coaches are around these guys all the time, so you would think they know best. You would also think that the coaches put together a game plan, which includes who they will play, that gives them the best chance to win. Who knows, maybe I'm naive. Maybe college coaches get these high paying jobs just so they can stick it to the fans and/or media, and they aren't really about winning games. These 50 year old men go home and night and giggle like school girls because the fans booed them. I guess its possible.
Dude, don't be that guy. Smith was a good college QB. 2,542 yards, 65% comp, 30 TDs, and 6 picks his senior season. He was on a good team, no doubt. You have to be in order to make the NC game. Just because he didn't have to win games all by himself, doesn't mean he was any less of a player.
He was a better passer than TP, but at the same time, he was NEVER the caliber player that would do well at the next level. Had Tressel developed Zwick, I believe Zwick also could have put up numbers that same way Troy Smith did. Look at this list of receivers..... Wide Receivers 4 Ray Small - Freshman 5 Albert Dukes - Sophomore 7 Ted Ginn Jr. - Junior 8 Roy Hall - Senior 9 Brian Hartline - Freshman 11 Anthony Gonzalez - Junior 15 Kyle Ruhl - Sophomore 18 Devon Lyons - Sophomore 18 David Lisko - Sophomore 19 Derek Harden - Senior 80 Brian Robiskie - Sophomore 81 Brent Ullery - Junior 86 Dan Potokar - Freshman At least 5 of those guys were drafted into the NFL.......
I don't understand your point? Troy Smith was a COLLEGE QB while at OSU. Why is the NFL even in this discussion? And why are you hating on Smith? The dude won the Heisman and led them to the NC game. Sheesh, some people are never satisfied. What does a OSU QB have to do to get your vote of approval? I think I've figured it out, they have to have a good NFL career. If thats the case, plan on being disappointed often.
There are lots of things I think about OSU that I haven't brought up on here. You guys aren't OSU fans so there is no point in me but just scratching the surface with you guys when discussing them. Here is another one that bothers me that I have never brought up... Jim Bollman should have been replaced years ago (offensive line coach), OSU brings in 4 and 5 star offensive line recruits but only ends up having a decent line each year. For what ever reason Tress is loyal to him even though his units underachieve for their talent every year. How about redshirting a tremendous athlete, a linebacker Etienne Sabino as a true JUNIOR. He came in as a 17 year old, redshirt him then... He would now be developed and would be starting on this defense. He has been a special teams demon for the past 2 years. As you can see from OSU's kick coverage they could really use him. Guess why else... OSU lost their number 1 play maker on defense to injury, Ross Homan.... He is a linebacker... We sure could have used Sabino this year, but he is riding the redshirt. I could go on with more if you guys really want to hear it
WOW... I cannot believe he is bashing Smith either..... He is and always will be regarded as one of the finest QB's in the history of OSU.
If I remember correctly, the only starting QB at OSU to beat UM three times. That right there is enough to make you a legend at OSU.
He led OSU to 2 straight Big Ten titles as a true freshman and a sophmore. He beat Michigan twice. He won the Rose Bowl MVP against the favored Oregon Ducks... He has lost 5 games (25-5) in 2.5 years.... I agree he has some rough spots in his game, but you are over critical. BTW Justin Zwick should have played ball at a MAC school. BTW2... You have not watched Posey close enough if you think he is anything but a 3rd reciever at best this year. Dane Sanzenbacker is a true talent at WR. The man catches everything and owns the middle of the field. He will be in the NFL next year.
You're partially right, I haven't gotten to watch all the games this year, as I've been working and into stuff, but Posey hasn't looked that bad. TP's passing still seems to me the WEAK spot on the team. If Guiton or Graham could pass as well as TP, he'd be starting on my team, and TP would be one of the most dominant WR in College football if he had the drive to play the position. The problem is, TP has been playing QB for 3 years now at OSU, and he should have developed by now. The fact that he hasn't shows that he's not going to. Too dumb, bullheaded, poorly coached, or whatever the reason is, he's NOT DEVELOPING as you'd expect a college QB to develop. Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez has less snap in their college careers, but they also both developed very well, and had good skillsets, something TP lacks for a QB.
This season Posey = alligator arms.... Honestly, Pryor isn't that bad... Obviously he is no Sam Bradford (who was a three year starter just like Pryor) or Sanchez... Those guys are elite talent... The best of the best in college football in recent memory. Very few would compair very well against those two. TP has the worst overall group of wide outs in recent memory. Dane is the only one who is playing good ball. When your "possession" receiver is the only receiver making plays, there are problems.
