Pulled all my cameras down today. One snapped the following pic from a few days ago... I believe it is this buck (can't confirm with the poor picture). He has been showing up on a somewhat regular schedule, but always at night. He never showed himself at any other camera all year, and never came to this one until Thanksgiving night. He's the only shooter buck(and only 3.5 yo+) I have had on cam all season long, so looking forward to hopefully finding his sheds.
I wait till the majority fall off, don't want to put added pressure on them while still holding one side.
I'll be out as soon as the snow clears. I found all these sheds within a week of the seasons end the last 2 seasons... 2 of them were within 3 days of the seasons end. I've always felt that a lot of the bigger bucks tend to drop early due to the sheer weight of the antler putting more stress/tension on the connecting tissue of the antlers.
Them are some nice ones, to bad the tree rats got to to the one. I went out for a quick walk the other day but didn't find any. I usually try to wait until Feb but I'll probably do a couple walks before. From cams I've checked looks like they're still holding on to them.
Yeah one of my better bucks had shed whe nI pulled the cards and checked them yesterday. The deer I call Meat Hook has dropped one side, Two Towers, Gnurley and TallTen still had both sides of theirs as of at least the 15th. I found one shed today from a buck I've never gotten on film.
Thanks. The top one scored between 75-80". That deer was a giant 10pt. Had him on camera all fall that year but never laid eyes on him. Found his shed then never got another pic or any sign of him. Vanished. Second one was off of a buck that showed up 2 consecutive winters. Never laid eyes on him or got a picture. The year before I found both sides. The last one was of my target buck from last year. I bumped him from his bed about 2 hours before I found the shed. I think he dropped it when I bumped him- it still had wet blood on the base.
I'm hoping so Fred. I'd say he's only 3.5 and seems to have taken a liking to our farm these past 2 months...unusual given how much gun hunting pressure it receives.
Yep all the big sheds I can remember finding, or my dad finding have all been early January finds. Always kind of figured that the heavier the antler the more likely it was to be dropped early.
My biggest shed ever i found last year at the end of Jan. All of the nice ones from last year i found before feb. 15 Sent from my C5170 using Tapatalk
Sweet!! Time to get after them! I used to have the frame of mind of waiting until the majority have fallen, however I feel now that it's best to at least take a walk now and then before some of the easy to find one's come up "missing".
some areas of the states have shed hunting earlier or later then others so i guess its up to your experience and when you feel its right to go out?
