So the past few years including this past year, our neighbors have had crop planted in boardering fields in the form of corn. This would be about 10 acres total of corn. Here we are in the middle of spring and there is none planted. I don't know if anything will be planted this year either. The neighbors sun is a real jerk and is much hated by many in the area. So asking him if there is going to be a crop planted later is out of the question. I hope this doesn't mess up my travel paterns for the season. There are a good bit of corn fields right accross the street from this one Do you guys think it will? Also, if I can get it done in time to compensate if needed, I have a three to four acre field I may be able to plant something in for the fall but, not sure what in the world to plant in such a big area. I want to keep the cost as low as posible yet still have something that will grow well into the fall and be realatively easy to plant. All it needs is to be bush hogged and plowed. Unfortunately I would have to borrow equipment from family but, I do have access to it all. Would it even be worth it this year or should I wait and see what happens?
Plant a nice variety in that plot of yours.....you don't need to plant all of it either. Plant a 3rd of it and let the grass get nice and high in the rest.
Soybean is pretty cheap. I picked up a 50lb bag of round up ready for $50. Call the local seed providers and see where the cheapest is and what all you can get.
You could plant some beans and peas in there right now then later plant rape, brassicas, and turnips over the top for fall.
I have some Evolved Harvest Shot Plot left from buying it for another plot that has seen not a single sign of deer activity yet but I did it kind of away from normal activity anyways. It has forage rape, some sort of turnips (don't recall which ones right now) and brassicas in it. I may just do an acre to an acre and a half of it. That stuff shot up in my other plot. It is still over 24" tall and green as everything else and it was easy to plant. The area was mowed earlier this year and is growing back great now. There is a heavily active deer trail and what looks to be naturally growing clover an area that is 30 feet or so wide and 100yd long that the deer trail runs right along this patch of clover. I guess I could mow down and disc and area right in the middle of it. I wont be hunting over this area just want something to keep them traveling the same trails they have and maybe help keep them in my area.
