Tonight was my third sit of the PA season, and going into the stand tonight, I had yet to see a deer from stand. Now some might think two days skunked isn't terrible, but coming off the last two seasons where I only got skunked 5 total sits, it can be a troublesome start. Unfortunately, I let these lack of sightings cloud my experience, and focus too much on results. In reality, I actually should have been pretty pumped considering my approach this year is trying to hunt the bucks during the early season, and keeping away from my doe haunts, but still. Anyways, fast forward to this evening. I had a sort of cool first for me in my 12 seasons bowhunting. My first deer I saw on stand for the season was a buck. That's never happened before (kind of an odd thing to get excited over, but oh well:D). In addition, I had a yearling feeding right under me. That's all it took. Two sightings, and immediately the excitement was back. Even though the buck wasn't legal, and I don't shoot yearlings, the experience was still memorable, and it made me appreciate the little things about the hunt that much more. Ok, that was my sentimental note for the night:p
That's nothing. It was an off night, had to work. Had I been in stand, you would have been covered in them. I was having a hell of a texting season up till last night.:p
How sweet. Glad to hear you got pumped back up. It can be disappointing going a few sits without a sighting. Good luck!
You don't shoot yearlings or "fawns"? Anywho, neat experience, Ive never thought about it really, I don't even remember what the first deer I saw on stand was.lol
