So my Mom is probably the most accomplished hunter in our family. My Dad doesn't even always give her the good spots, and when she tries to pass on what we all think is the best area, we know she is up to something. She has a knack for killing deer, and loves to scout as much as anyone I know. She flat out has a nose for deer. I had to laugh when she told me where she shot her second buck this year. Its one of her favorite gun spots, but where the deer stood when she dropped it was what cracked me up. The area overlooks a thick creek bottom that exits a cedar swamp. She has had a few good bucks sneak through the thicket over the years with no shot opportunity. A few years back, they cut a firing lane down near the creek. While planting some rye fields around the property this past year, my Mom decided they should plant the area they cleared for the firing lane. The main reason that led to this? They are old and bored. So as her favorite son, I mocked her and said she was a trend setter in food plot technology. The "firing lane food plot". Fast forward to the third day of the firearm season. A doe enters the narrow rye field and begins to feed. After about 10 minutes, my Mom raises her gun and considers shooting the doe. Just as the scope finds the doe, she bolts, and this buck replaces where the doe stood. Two seconds later it was on the ground. I get the call from my Mom who is whispering and sounding a little "shakey". The conversation goes like this... Mom: "I just shot a good buck." Me: "How big?" Mom: "I'm not sure yet, I just shot it. At least an 8 point. Guess where I shot it?" Me: "Where?" Mom: "The firing lane food plot." <-- This statement contained "take that" undertones with heavy smirking. Me: <laughing> "Of course!" The firing lane food plot buck, right where it dropped. The check station aged at it 4.5, but my Dad suspects it was 3.5 A very respectable 10 pt northern MI buck. And the Sicilian Assassin...all 5' 105 lbs. The deer looks huge next to her.
Someone in your family has to kill deer and it may as well be the smartest and best hunter. Congratulations to your Mom.
I'm glad my mom doesn't outhunt me:D Congrats to her. Sounds like I could learn a thing or do from her for sure.
That buck was shot in the county my family has hunted for 60+ years, and none of them have a bigger buck then Vito's mom. We just got owned by Vito's mom.
