My first archery buck A Thanksgiving buck I killed in zero degree wind chill...I'm proud of that one A MN Blackie with bow
This was my first bow kill. He scored 167 3/8 and it made it special to have all my family there with me. This was my very first deer of my career at age 12. I had my grandpa with me who got me into deer hunting. Thanks grandpa!
I really enjoy hunting those things which are capable of hunting back, but... I have a few other nice trophies as well.
My 1st ever bear, 14 years old. The whole family In the picture. My biggest bear and by far the most exciting hunt I've ever been on. The 1/4 mile walk out after the shot was probably more exciting and exhausting then the hunt Itself. I must've puked and dry heaved 100 times. My gut was rolling, I knew he was a one of a kind bear.
2009 Buck first buck I've ever killed with a friend in the same woods.. 2008 Buck, got him on game cam that morning killed him in the afternoon 07 First "Big" deer, relative to NC
Great thread! I have two favorites The first one is my first bowkilled buck from last year. Not only was this my first whitetail buck with a bow but also my most knowledge packed year yet. I logged 150+ hours in the stand and learned more than I could have ever imagined. Rattled this buck into 5 yards. I could not climb out of my stand for 30 mins. after the shot, worst buck fever I have ever had No, he's not big but I busted my ass to get him and thats just fine with me. The second one is a very special one. My first bowkill of any species ever and to top it off, I was with my father. This was my second year of bowhunting and after a emotionally devestating first year (lost elk) I needed a pick-me-up. We hunted this bull hard all morning and I finally got a crack at him in the way of a 25yrd quartering away shot. Needless to say, when the fletching buried deep and blood covered his side, I cried like a little baby I was 15 years at the time The best part, I finally moved back to idaho and get to hunt this area for the first time again since this picture was taken, 6 years ago. My dad has taken two bulls the last two years from within 1/2 mile and we have tabs on several bulls that will go 320''+ this year. C'mon September!!
Steve and Will thank you and some great stuff you guys put up also. This thread sure has opened up some great memories from my first hunt growing up in Colorado to my last until this past January. Keep them coming and I thank you all for sharing some great stuff here. JZ if you dont mind can I see that pic of you and your dad with I think it was the moose. Thanks, T
I feel the same way, Brandon! BTW....your photographer rocks! I've been fortunate enough to have several friends take deer, hunting with them (Including the OP). It's a great feeling. Not my biggest - but my favorites.... LOTS of photos of this guy.... This one was pretty cool, last year, also.
Well you probably wouldn't of guessed, but most will be elk pics (go figure).....the memories that these pics have behind them could never be explained in a post This is my first bow elk in Colorado This was one I called in for a buddy, his first Colorado elk ! Now he's hooked This was the bull I shot 3 days before he shot the one above This was another bull that I called in for another friend of mine. He too, was a first timer
My oldest sons first buck about 26 years ago. He was 12 at the time. One of the best DIY hunts I ever been on but not just because it was successful. There were only 3 of us in camp that year and we had a blast. The oldest son (14 at the time) was chased out of his fishing spot by a bear 2 days in a row and you could throw a rock from our camp and hit it. Good times! Most memorable Buck, Grunted in from 100 + - a few yards away, Just flinched when the arrow went through him and glanced at where the noise had come from, went right back to sniffing the JVS I had out till he staggared , took a few steps and laid down right in front of me and died. It was a crazy day.
Awesome response guys lots of great memories in all the photos I can't find the photo with the white faced doe anywhere, jeff do you have a copy of it - not sure where the wife saved it
1st pic, is of my Iowa buck, the "sacrificial lamb", I let a monster that my buddy wanted really bad, walk by at 8 yards to take this guy who was right behind the big fella. I was glad I did, my bud killed the monster about 1 month later (188), and I was tickled with this buck! 2nd pic this 6x6 I shot a year after my brother missed him, hence the name Lucky6 as we called him. Have one shed of his. 3rd pic, a late season buck that I shot with my backup bow after having troubles on a nearly subzero day, I hoofed it home through the snow when my regular bow string just came off the harness while warming up a bit, anyway I got back to my stand and shot this buck shortly after with my old clearwater mag, the first compound I ever owned...had a set of his sheds 4th pic, Stretch Buck, he's to date my oldest buck, he had arthritis when he walked, my taxi had his biologist age him at 9-10 years old, no teeth left.. had a set of his sheds. 5th buck, my favorite buck so far, biggest and was aged at 7.5 by the local biologist here.found a shed off of him. Had a really great year of scouting him in 02 spring to the 03 fall. so far these are my 5 favorite buck kills to date..
