I'm convinced it's the not the players moreso than the agents that represent them. It's definitely about the money for them, they could care less who the player plays for as long as he makes the most money possible. When the situation like NYBH described comes along, the agent is probably telling the player how insulting it is that the "good" team is because they are not paying more money and the player is worth so much more. The player eats this up and goes for the money.

Damon has championship rings. At this point in his career, it sounds like he wanted to go somewhere he could be an everyday player. Makes sense to me.

I understand that. And I can see that for your typical "journeyman" athlete. I see that the case and have no problem with it for a guy that gets drafted and not being confident with the longevity of his career. Yeah, sign the biggest contract you can and play for whoever wants to pay you. If you think you're stint in the bigs will be shortlived by all means load up while you can or before you get hurt.

But........... if you are a 10-15 year veteran and have earned over 150 million dollars in your career? What difference is 152 million? Especially when you have a couple years left to do it? wouldn't you think at that point you'd want to win championships. Hell I think the feeling of being the best in the world, making your mark on history and the fame that goes along with it would be worth the 2 million dollars at that point in an athletes life. Would you want to go out as the guy that played outfield for the Tigers for a couple years or a guy that was on that championship team that won 4 in a row and will be remembered for the end of time?

NY B, that is how i feel totally! some guys just dont care about championships and record books. Damon seems like a good dude, so i really dont know why he wanted to leave. maybe the city(wanting to raise his kids somewhere else), i saw somebody posted maybe he wanted to be the "big fish" again, and i know he got took to the cleaners by that big scam!!!!!!
who knows. but i do know this very thing is what makes sports so entertaining, we can sit back and discuss what we think and how things should go down, cause we love our teams!!!!!!!!

He was only the most marketed athlete of all time. Competed in the dunk contest (popularity contest), stuff of that nature.

Im not saying its a bad thing, but he sure did take care of his PR ;)

Caleb, that is all true, the big thing is that MJ did all of that while still doing everything he could to ensure that his team would win and he has the rings to proove it. Bron is an absolute freak of an athlete, but he seems more worried about putting on a show than getting those rings.. final seconds of a game and instead of driving for a dunk or lay up, he pulls up tries to pull off a falling away Kobe 3 just to make top plays on Sports Center!!!

    No argument here

Ive said it literally a million times on here, LeBron has the tools to become "legendary", and the next few years are pivotal in that. We'll see what he decides to do.

sidenote...why don't more NBA players finish with dunks, especially towards the end of games. I HATE when a player achieves the required height for a dunk, goes modest and tries to put it on glass, and gets blocked, especially in the final moments.

HIGHEST PERCENTAGE SHOT GUYS! DO IT!

    rant over

MJ got his money from winning...being like Mike was not money, women and fame. It was the average joe actually thinking he could "Be like Mike". People stuck their tongues out because Mike did it, and the dunk contest at the time was not what it is now...with costumes etc...it was Jordan, Nique, Spud, Kenny "Sky" Walker...superstars competing for a title...Winning. Bird was shooting 3's and Winning.

Do not get me wrong, I am not naieve enough to think Mike was a do it for the community kind of guy...but he was the nastiest competitor we may ever see, he willed victories, and wanted the ball...not for ego or fame, but because he realized the was the absolute best ever and why would you want anyone else taking the shot if you are the best.

I sound like I need to be plucked from his sack, but he is the sole reason alot of hall of famers are ringless. Dominique Wilkins "the human highlight film" is one of the casulties and my favorite player of all time.

    Absolute truth

Watching the late 90's Bulls was a weird feeling. I KNEW they were going to win. No matter what. No player/team on earth had a chance.

And then you have some macho whacko like Jason Williams who started a jail time job yesterday. The jerk was supposedly showing off his gun collection and shot his driver. Now who has a gun collection and doesn't know to check for a loaded gun before you point it at someone and pull the trigger. What reasonable person points it at anyone to begin with. You can dress 'em up but you can't take 'em out. I heard Damon was offered 14 for 2 years by the Yankees but took the one year deal for 8. If that's true... he certainly screwed up big time. Unless he becomes the hero of the team this year he'll be lucky to get the 6 next year.

Yes. That's a whole different world of lack of comprehending.
