Every year one of our local high schools puts on a Sportsman's Night Out. They bring in special guests every year. I've met Greg and Jake Miller, Bone Collectors and Knight and Hale.
Back in like 2007 I was going to a Blake Shelton concert in a small town in South Dakota. It was before Blake was huge, but he had a respectable record at the time. About an hour before the concert, a huge storm rolls through and blows a concert light onto the windshield of his tour bus. Well it just so happens my brother-in-law owns the biggest body shop in that town, and he gets the call to fix it. About twenty minutes later the bus is in his body shop and I am standing there hearing stories from Blake Shelton. It was a really cool experience. The funniest part of the whole thing: As we are at the body shop, this promoter from the concert shows up to talk to Blake and brings him two fruit baskets. Blake thanks them and takes some time to talk to them and puts the baskets on his bus. A couple minutes after the promoters leave two town cops show up to make sure everything is alright with Blake. As they are standing there, Blake says "Hey I got a gift for ya'll!" He walks on the bus and gets the two fruit baskets from a couple minutes earlier. He gives the cops the fruit baskets and they were really thankful and felt pretty cool getting a gift from Blake Shelton. When the cops left Blake winks at me and says "Thats how you get rid of that ****!"
I met an rode on Trevor Vines pit bikes before at a Nationals race, he was there to preform freestyle during intermission. Needless to say its the coolest thing to ever happen to me!
Countless.. w BowTech at the shows and in our hospitality suites but... The one I loved tho was approaching Rick and Julie Kreuter (Beyond the Hunt) at the airport, offering them a ride to the ATA show, calling Frank / PA if he had room in his pickup when he picked me up with him saying I'm full of (crap) and his jaw dropping when I was standing there with Rick and Julie waiting on him... good peeps... Too many outdoor celebs to mention at the shows... but NFL Rothlisberger, Brett Kiesel... WWE star Michaels etc....
Joe mauer used to date my neighbor when he was a rookie for the twins. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Met Aaron Rodgers and nick Barnett at a bar. Met Dave kreig at a bar.... for some reason all I could say to him was "you're Dave ****ing kreig!" Met Jordan Zimmerman of the nationals at a local baseball game. I think that's all I have. Gretchen Wilson used to be a bartender at a local bar. Talked to her several times before she hit it big. Nelly and I were in the same luxury suite during a Rams game once.
I came across Brian Urlacher letting his dog do its business in a grassy are between two hotel parking lots. I was in Bourbonnais for training camp and apparently he was spending the weekend with his lady at the hotel adjacent to ours. He was a very, very big dude. I really regret not shaking his hand. I was out and about one day last fall for work and walked next to Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes singer) as he was going from a record store back to his tour bus. Those are the only random encounters I can think of that involved fairly famous folks.
My uncle did PR for the big power company in Indy so I got free tickets to almost every event. The coolest one was the 500 festival parade a few years ago. We were being carted to our seats on golf carts and there were 2 Medal of Honor recepients on my cart. I was speechless. Also, my other uncle lived in the nicest part of the city and I stayed there when we went to basketball camps with my cousin. I've met most all of the pacers, Miller on many occasions and even went through market square arena with the pacer's coach's son. That was pretty fun. A lot of colts and pacers players were at my Aunts funeral but I didn't speak to any of them for obvious reasons. Also, another uncle used to be on the same racing team as Tony Stewart. We used to go to all the races as very early teenagers. I actually got in big trouble for standing in front of his car and telling the little kids it was mine and signing autographs for them. I'm sure there are many more but those stick out the most. Oh, going through John Force's trailer in the pits was pretty cool. Didn't get to meet him though. I also met one driver in a back hallway of Lucas Oil stadium one day. We were both lost so we figured out where we were at together. That was pretty funny.
Met Tiger Woods in 1997 on the boardwalk in AC. He was very cordial. We talked for several minutes. Also met Dan Marino in a club in Miami. Never realised how tall and broad a man he was.
