Just for the record - I'm much better at killing deer with antlers attached to their head than I am at shed hunting. I've walked well over 30 miles this spring and have come up emptyhanded - ZIP, ZERO, NADA! Worst. Shed. Season. Ever. Trade shows the next two weekends back to back, so my shed hunting is over for this year. Also for the record, I hate all of you guys who found sheds this year. Even if it was only one.
Same here this year. Big ol Goose Egg. Haven't walked as much as you have, but walked some great spots and nothing! I just continue to suck at life!
This is looking like a horrid shed hunting season for many of us. The only up side is we don't suck quite as bad you do. I finally broke the 10 mark on Saturday. Was starting to get worried when an all day tromping on Friday was a bust again. I am just happy Britney has found 4 as she has been putting on as many miles I have. Tim
I was wondering where the heck my teammate was and now you show up. I was sucking until this past week. It was a so far great week. Tonight I jumped two bucks with full racks yet. This is crazy! Still more to find if the grass does not beat me covering them up.
Big nada here too. Seen 5 mule deer today all with full head gear. Im working in southwest nebraska where the mule deer are thick as theives.
Technically that was last year, so it doesn't count. I'm about as good at finding sheds as you are guiding for elk.
That was cold !! This is were you were suppose to reply by throwing up a picture of the sheds you found this year and go... neener neener. Followed with a and a :p for good measures. :D Tim
Think I have officially given up this year already. About 25 hours in with no luck this season with nothing so going to put my efforts to other things now. See you saturday at the show JZ.
I'm with you. Have travelled well over 40 miles with no sheds found. Of course, this has been mostly here in McHenry county (Illinois) where we have sharpshooters out killing deer for the past few years so our deer density numbers in my area are way down. Hoping to play hooky tomorrow from work to go to some land in WI that is more dense with deer than around here. Good luck guys/gals!
Well, I believe I am now officially the worst shed hunter in the midwest! I spent 8 hours yesterday walking deer trails, bedding areas and feeding grounds. I am still shed-less this season....booo-hoooo. Good news, I spent part of that 8 hours clearing a path to a staging area between two known bedding areas and crops on the one side. The opposite side is a cliff/bluff that has a 80' dropoff. This staging area is fairly clear when you get to it, but there has never been a good route to get to it as the thicket completly surrounding it is nearly impenetrable. Not any longer thanks to a chainsaw, weed-wacker and round-up! I hung a stand that I do not plan on even accessing until around Halloween.
Well, I am a little happier to know that I am not the only member of the "club" then! Truthfully, I would much rather gather the antler with the body still attached (legally during the hunting season) anyways. Thanks for the support Amatuer!!
