Well im going to start a diet/ exercise routine beginning next week and need to figure out the best solution for breakfast.

I normally try and eat a granola bar for breakfast, they aint real big or filling but figure that is something to get my body going.

Is the granola bar enough for breakfast to really help me efficiently get my body going?

I have also been thinking about starting to drink a breakfast drink, like a carnation or whatever else is out there that i can mix myself. Is the breakfast drink a good idea? Do i eat something and drink a breakfast drink, or just one or the other? Are their brands out there better than others?

Im really not motivated to wake up and cook breakfast so the granola bars really work the best for me and so would a breakfast drink... im trying to keep it as cheap as possible becuase eating healthy is expensive

Thanks for the help... i wish weight was as easy to lose as it is to gain

A granola bar has almost no real nutrition in it. Eat some eggs. They're fast and easy and good for you.

For about two years now, almost every breakfast of mine has been a measured 1/2-cup of oats, a heaping spoonful of ground flax seeds and a scoop of vanilla protein powder.

Mix some whole grain carbs with protein for a good breakfast. One of my breakfasts of choice is oatmeal, hard boiled eggs and protein shake another is 2 slices of Ezekiel bread with peanut butter and a little cinnamon and a hard boiled egg.

Whey protein powder, a little almond milk (unsweatened) and some frozen fruit. It's filling, taste great and good for you. You can throw some oatmill in there.

    Good luck.

+1 Eggs are some of the best breakfast you can eat. I boil six eggs every morning while I am getting ready for work. I get 4 of them and the dogs get the other two. I just eat the egg whites, sometimes a yolk or two but eating that many yolks every day gets old after a while.

The easy answer is NO. Some good suggestions so far. Protein and carb...find at least one of each that work for you. Its best if its something you like and easy for you to eat, so you don't have the urge to skip breakfast. While you hear people say all the time that its important to eat a "big" breakfast, you must pay attention to portion/serving sizes. You don't have eat a ton of food, but you have to eat the right food.

    A few breakfast options...

    Proteins:
-eggs (preferably just the whites if you're trying to lose weight)
    -low fat dairy
    -nuts
-protein powder (note: not all protein powders are created equal)

    Carbs:
    -100% whole grain breads
-oatmeal (old fashioned oats are quick and easy)
    -fruit

First off you need to change your user name :p I switch mine around so as not to get tired of one thing. Currently its 1 peice of 100% whole wheat toast with a spread of natural peanut butter and 2 egg whites.
sometimes Kashi ceral, the higher protein one with 2% milk, small serving. sometimes a protein shake with 10 unsalted almonds, and a cup of oats mixed with water in the blender, sometimes with strawberries added. The two best things you can do besides the exercise is to drink LOTS of water, dump the soda pop period including Diet. cut out the sweats and lose the weight slowly.

Good stuff, crick. The only ingredient in peanut butter should be peanuts. Thats it.

I usually have oatmeal and a protein shake or 6 eggs (3 yokes) and 2 or 3 slices of multigrain toast. Adding to what Vito said about portion sizes you should keep your breakfast to no more than 500 calories. All this does depend on your height and weight and what your weight gain/loss goals are. Since you want to lose weight, I would still eat up to 500 calories for breakfast and never skip breakfast either. I'm 5'10 200lbs and need 2500 calories a day to maintain. The more you work out obviously your going to need more food to refuel. Make sure your consistent with your meals...eat 6 smaller meals a day that way your body will notice your getting food more frequently and will be less likely to store body fat for energy. Eat complex carbs surrounding your workout for energy and the rest of the meals during the day stick to fruits and vegetables for carbs. right after working out you should have a protein shake and some fast digesting carbs...when I worked out a lot I used a few teaspoons of dextrose which is a simple sugar and then two hours after that I had a hearty meal of protein and carbs just stick to your portion size. If you find yourself getting hungry between those 6 meals a day, bump up the calories a little. 70 % of a healthy lifestyle is your diet . You can work out all you want but if your eating burgers all the time and junk food your not going to get the results you want.

I like a little salt in my natural peanut butter. Tastes a little flat otherwise.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid any ingrediant your 8 year old can't pronounce, or anything that has "hydrogenated" in the ingrediant list.

The advice I was given was if you can't pronounce it OR you don't know what it is then don't eat it.

Avoiding processed foods will make that task easier.

I mixed it up a bit today... one cup of skim milk, two scoops whey protein powder, one cup of chopped frozen bananas...

I'd been outside weedeating for an hour and a half in the heat and I wanted something frozen-ish... if you like chocolate milkshakes, this is good stuff! :)

Ahhh the processed foods...eat as much natural food as possible. You'd be surprised how much better you'll feel when you purge your system of all those preservatives!

I HAVE to have some sort of protein in the morning or my body sugar levels go to heck. I usually try to eat oatmeal with milk, but lately I have gone to french toast and sausage. I need the calories as I am burning on average 500-700 a day from exercise.
