I need some ways to keep deer away.

Tell me how I can keep the frigging deer from eating my Junipers! I spent a bunch of money two years ago to plant ~20 3-4’ Junipers. But during winter the urban deer hammer them. Last year we sprayed with store bought deer repellent and even burlaped each tree. They spray only kept them away for a couple days to a week max. The burlap helped but you can tell they still dug their nose in got to them. Almost to the point I am thinking about taking them all out because they look they look so bad come spring and can’t grow very much. When I would look outside at night and see them eating the trees I would open the back deer and yell at them and they would just stand there and look at me and I would literally have to put my shoes on and go out and run after them. Any suggestions on how to keep these bastards away!! (Homemade or commercial sprays, scents, etc)

A good dog or some fencing....deer love junipers/cedars/yew especially in winter months. Being that they are urban deer human hair won't do anything. Any spray will dissipate after about a week or after a rain. IF you want to try spraying every 3-4 days...try water with dishsoap(like a tablespoon soap to 1 quart water - this just helps it stick to the plant better) along with cayenne pepper(or habanero - anyway HOT!). This works well for us in the garden....just need to reapply every-so-often and after each rain. Lots cheaper than the deer/rabbit repellant spray.

We have a 7 month old Lab that we didn't have last year. But she stays inside and the deer only come in the middle of the night. I don't see that helping much. I would really like to not have to spray everycouple of days in the middle of winter. I am even thinking about fencing them in with something. But 20+ trees would suck.

My dad has had good luck up here with some coyote pee granules. I can find out what brand it is, but this was the first year that the deer didn't eat all the lilies in his yard.

Winter you likely wouldn't have to spray that often and also once the herd realizes they get a hot mouth every time they touch em after a bit they will just avoid them anyway. The coyote pee thing might work but that depends on if they perceive them to be a threat....if no yotes around then no fear(just another dog). Myself - I'd likely start stinging them with a little BB gun whenever I saw them - lol

They only eat them during winter when the crop fields are covered up. The spray only lasted a couple days and they were back at it. There are yotes around but not a lot.

Perhaps the hot sauce spray which is cheaper and guys swear by to keep deer off the beans would work?

Is it similar to what is posted above? Or do you have a link to this recipe?

Hair from a barbershop usually works for awhile. Wind chimes help for awhile as well. Maybe a scarecrow? :)

I think it is funny that I spend hundreds of dollars and endless hours up north to attrack deer with food plots. Then at home I need to spend money and a lot of effort to keep them away. :sheep:

I have seen a deer repellent at Lowe's near the other pesticides and so on, not sure how well it works though.

Messina wildlife deer repellent works very well. You could spray it on the ground near where you don't want them and it will help. They even make a yard and garden starter kit that is awesome!

Also you could try Milorganite and it should help keep them away - has a little stink to it but works well.

You could also put a few stakes in the ground and put either a tin foil pan or CD on the a string around the stake - between the flash and sound it will help.

You need to spray the PlotSaver ever few weeks - to extend the life, mix a couple of eggs, hot sauce, cayenne pepper and milk together ahead of time with the Plot Saver let it sit out for a few weeks then spray that

This combo kept the deer off my food plots this year a Messina Plot Saver, Milorganite and Scarecrow - it worked very well for me. Like was stated above you have to re-apply the PS every so often but it will all help!

You could always just post your address. Give it a few days for everyone to make it to your house, and GAME ON! You wouldn't have to worry about your junipers ever again.

Honestly Pastorandrew has a concoction of hot sauce spray he swears by, and if we plant beans next year I know I'll be reaching out to him about it. Dude is oober intelligent about this stuff.

I would set up (2) Ozonic units, spray (3) nose jammers and hang a poster of Spook Spann.
