Sorry for the disappointment but this is NOT about prostitution.:bash:

For our cabin to be built, we are trying to decide on what ceiling/walls/trim to use.

If you want to see the floor plan, it is here.

    http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...es-of-hunting-land-thread&p=432730#post432730

The cabin will be an open loft type design. The entire ceiling in the main area is planned to be the knotty pine type. And the walls will be drywall.

The first paint color will be just antique white. I suppose we could paint darker later but that will be a hell of a project with the exposed two story wall on the gable end.

The question I have is will it be too light with a natural wood color knotty pine ceiling and natural color wood baseboard/trim? Or should I try and darken up the natural wood color which will cost more and take a lot more time? Or should I just paint the walls darker? Or do you think this looks good?

I would presume the final product will look something like this under the current plan. Except the flooring and doors will be just a tad bit darker.

I thought I liked it but now I am having second thoughts.

Your design is similar to my dad's house. I'll run over there in a bit and snap a few photos.

For me, that's a lot of white.

I would say an off white or light tan would be great..

I like light colors. I despise dark wood or dark painted walls, so I like your idea. You can always bring color in with furniture, art, and other types of decor.

Alright, here are a few shots...

Here's the color they used for the kitchen, living area, & hall. It's a tan with a fairly warm hue.

Here's the color in the loft, their master bedroom. I believe it's called Navaho Red

And finally, the guest bedroom has a sage green color.

The colors are a little different since I have to turn the lights on and was using my phone, but it might give you some ideas. They are talking about repainting everything in a year or two. I'm pushing them towards a darker color for the living/kitchen area. There's a ton of natural light, and the exterior walls a log, so it won't get too dark on them.

    Hope this helps.

I went with natural wood color for the ceiling and did the wall darker. I like the natural beauty of wood, my advice is to clear coat the wood and paint the walls a bit darker.

I'm with ya on this! I hate seeing woodwork painted over.

It'd be good to note that any T&G or paneling that you coat with poly will darken over time as light hits it. So photos or anything hanging on the wall or set in front of it, can create a light area if you later move them.

Here's an example from the Lodge...

IMO, if you are going with the natural wood, I would go with a little darker color on the walls so that the wood will stand out. Possibly a tan or something along those lines. The wife was looking at it with me and she agreed.

Whatever you do, don't paint the walls tan or brown. It will all look the same. Paint the walls some type of contrasting color. I like pale palettes, so I think the white will look great, but a light green or blue would contrast nicely.

If I ever have a cabin, I'll do the interior walls in barn boards.

    Good comments.

What I could do is keep the wood natural color. The drywallers are including one coat of paint. I like that grey color that Fitz shows above with the natural wood.

Hook, what do you think of the wall color on Fitz's second picture? I kind of like that color. The paint color below the pictures. (The one with the three pictures above the stairs and you can see the ceiling fan)

Antique white primer paint I think. I'll have to check with him again.

I like it. It's light enough that it does not match the wood tone.
