I needed this. I needed someone to tell me this. She was addicted to pain meds smoking and drinking. She wouldn't take our help, she just denied the problem. I won't talk bad about her though to anyone. She's was a very caring woman and I wish she could have been a grandmother to my daughters. That's why I'm mad at her, I know it's tough. I dip and have struggled to quit. I just wish she could have known how bad she was hurting my wife and took the help we tried so desperately to get her. We were in the process of getting her put into a rehab home but it was just too late. My tobacco use WILL stop. she put it into perspective for me even though that wasn't what did her in completely. Again thanks for saying the right words. I just broke down in tears while reading that because it was 100% spot on.
Dan, I see it all the time, I recently took care of a young man who had died and was brought back from a drug OD, only because a bystander was smart enough and luckily sober enough to start CPR and call 911, also notified EMS that he'd OD'd on a narcotic.... After several hours in the hospital, this young man who earlier in the evening had been DEAD, walked out with his wife, ALIVE, and very lucky..... This was his first OD, he was a recovering addict who in a moment of weakness backslid.... He declined our SS people because he already had a sponsor who was a recovering addict whom he felt could better put things into perspective..... This is just one of the 3-4 cases a week I generally see in the ED.... And while he get a second chance, and was going to be able to kiss his kids in the morning, I can only hope that he can make it through each day staying clean, and not returning to me again in worse shape the next time... Addiction is very difficult to deal with, and wen doctors sometimes so readily medicate anything to appease patients, we end up with people addicted to all kinds of things, even nasal spray.... In Ohio we have limited prescribing through ER's where we can only prescribe the lowest levels of narcotics and only enough that would get a patient through 7 days, we also have a Narcotic scoring system, that alerts providers to a patient's number of narcotic prescriptions they have received over the past year.... Patients with scores above a certain level are not allowed to have prescriptions.... Sadly, I believe Ohio is 2nd or 3rd in the country in prescription drug overdose deaths, which is what caused the laws to change to limit prescribing by ED physicians and practitioners.... I hope your mother-in-law may rest in peace and you can find all the positive in the days, weeks, months and years to come and forget the negative that has hurt you, your wife, and your family.... May God Bless you and yours with strength, love, and peace as you deal with this loss...
Thanks guys. My wig has done extremely well. It's been almost 2 months since she's passed and life has gone back to "normal". Thanks for all the prayers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
