I am looking to buy a bow. I live in Kansas, and I want to deer/turkey hunt with it. I plan on hunting out of a treestand, groundblind, or stalking. I want a bow that is very flexible with how I want to hunt. I have never owned a bow, but I know I have about a 29 inch draw length and a 50-60 pound draw weight. So: SOMETHING WITH UP TO A 30-31 INCH DRAW LENGTH, AND AT LEAST A 60 POUND DRAW WEIGHT.

Could you please help point me in the right direction? I don't mind spending a good amount of money because I know the bow will last me a lifetime. I have been looking at the Bowtech Admiral, Hoyt Vectrix, and the Martin Saber. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RECCOMEND OTHER BOWS!!!

What do I need to look for when buying a bow (axle to axle, etc...) and what do these things cause (quieter, vibration, etc...).

    Thanks,
    DU Hunter

You'll see on these sights allot of different opinions on bows. All the companies make a very good quality bow now days. Most of what people say is just preference. I shoot a browning Illusion bow. Not many people seam to own browning bows, but I love it and it fits me good so it would take alot of convincing to get me to switch models. Point is you need to go out and shoot these different bows you were thinking of buying, you'll know when you find one that fits you. IMO You should also look at the Mathews bows. The DXT is a smaller bow that is fast and light and should work great for ground blinds and tree stands cause of it's size. But shoot them all and you'll know when your holding the right one for you.

I had a old Bear that was over 15 years old. I bought a new Mathews Drenalin 2 years ago and I love it. If your after a light weight bow that is smooth and shoots great this is the way to go....

If it doesn't have to be new, I'd look at a Bowtech Tribute or Allegiance.

    DUH27,
Did you find you a bow yet? I'm in the market myself. I haven't commented yet but I'm really leaning toward a bowtech Sniper or Mathews XT because of the extra draw lenght. Let me know what you find and why you choose it.

TopPin, how do you like the bowtech in the woods of bama? I'm in Ft Mitchell (Russell County) so I'm looking for a bow that can withstand stalking in the thickets of L.A. I have been looking at the Bowtech Sniper and SWAT and Mathews Switchback XT. What do you think?

bigtb_3. I replied to you other thread, but I think that the Sniper or the Swat would be great choices. The differences being in brace height and in speed as a result of the BH. It's really personal preference, but with those arms you are gonna get speed out of anything. If I were you, between the two, it would be the Sniper.

Ducks, In your case, you have many more options with the slightly shorter draw length than bigt. Best thing you can do is get yourself the the shops and start shooting. AFter that it's personal preference. If you want more advice here, answer a few questions? Do ya like em short or long? Speed or smooth? What is your price range?

He helped my buy my bow. The guy has researched more for bows than most people do for their car! I'd listen to his recommendations. Heck, I don't buy field tips without consulting him first.

I have a Fred Bear Vapor 300. It's been a good starter bow for me, but now I want a Hoyt Alphamax. The funds just do not permit it. :violin:

shot the 09' BOWTECH Captain, Admiral, Sentinel, and 82nd yesterday. All of them were great, but I went with the Captain b/c it seemed to be the smoothest and most quiet.

There are lots of great beginner bows out there. (Price wise) Try an older model or used bow because they can be bought all set up for about $300.00. Practice and get out there hunting. Once you've taken a couple of animals and you are really hooked, like the rest of us, that is when you pay big $ and get the bow of your dreams.

You can always check out the chain store brand bows. I have a Gander Mountain TecHunter, which is built by Diamond (Bowtech) exclusively for Gander Mountain. Save quite a bit of money. A 3 year old can drink alot of juice and milk,
