I am looking to buy a bow. I live in Kansas, and I want to deer/turkey hunt with it. I plan on hunting out of a treestand, groundblind, or stalking. I want a bow that is very flexible with how I want to hunt. I have never owned a bow, but I know I have about a 29 inch draw length and a 50-60 pound draw weight. So: SOMETHING WITH UP TO A 30-31 INCH DRAW LENGTH, AND AT LEAST A 60 POUND DRAW WEIGHT. Could you please help point me in the right direction? I don't mind spending a good amount of money because I know the bow will last me a lifetime. I have been looking at the Bowtech Admiral, Hoyt Vectrix, and the Martin Saber. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RECCOMEND OTHER BOWS!!! What do I need to look for when buying a bow (axle to axle, etc...) and what do these things cause (quieter, vibration, etc...). Thanks, DU Hunter
I have got the new Bowtech Admiral and love it. The admiral is smooth and quiet. Before you buy anything just make sure that you shoot everything first. The new Bowtech Air Raid just got released at the ATA show, which is also suppose to be good also.
DUH, you already have some great pics in that lineup. You'd be doing yourself a big injustice if you don't shoot as many as you can and find the one that fits you perfectly. Take no short cuts, bows are not cheap and they are not an investment so you want to do it right. Good luck and enjoy the journey. With all the great equipment on the market right now, your going to have a good but hard time deciding.
Like the others have said, try em' all. But I'm sure you'll end up w/a Bowtech!:d You did say that you wanted to hunt with the bow. That takes Mathews out of the picture.
Now Now, let him try out multiple bows and see what is best for him. Look where peer pressure has gotten most of the shooters on this site, hahaha.
Ouch IDW! DU hunter, when I set out to buy my first non-hand-me-down bow I spent a ton of time researching and shooting different bows. Most of the bows made today are excellent and will do you justice in the field and at the range. Like these guys said, shoot as many different bows as you can, and not just the latest models. I ended up getting a Mathews Drenalin (29" ,60#) The Drenalin felt the best to me. Its light, quiet, smooth drawing, and pretty forgiving. I went with the 60# because I knew that I'd be hunting a great deal in cold weather up here in Ely, and I didn't want to struggle or pull something after sitting all day. Plus 60# is more than enough weight to be lethal for most game (though Drenalins do tend to run a bit stiff, I get about 63# out of mine). As far as for how bow characteristics effect performance, a great place to look is right here http://www.bowhunting.com/publish/posts/20/bow-selection.aspx I also know that one of my old issues of Deer and Deer Hunting had a great breakdown. I'll let you know if I can find it. Good luck, and have fun!!
After you decide on the bow you like go to Huntersfriend.com and see if you can beat the packages they offer delivered to your door... SB
People that buy Mathews just don't hunt with our bows...We put deer down!! Case in point...check out my avatar!! Mathews SQ2 from 2001 baby!! Like many others have said. Just start shooting some bows and find one that fits you. I wouldn't even let the maker of the bow be a factor. My first bow was a PSE...it put animals down. My second bow was a Golden Eagle..it was a tank, but it put animals down.
DU: I have a Martin Saber. I chose it because I thought for the money it was the best thing I could buy. Mine came set up from Bass Pro with a quiver, rest, sight, and string leaches for $320. One of the HUGE selling points for me was the fact that it has a 15 lb adjustment, as opposed to a 10lb adjustment like most bows. My Saber shoots great! I slowly maxed out the weight over the summer, and took a good doe with it this fall. It will kill deer just fine. Now, that being said, if it werent my FIRST bow, or if cost had nothing to do with it, I would have to agree with alot of people on the site.... I would own a Bow Tech. I shot just about EVERY bow that was being marketed last summer, and I liked the Bow Techs the best. So its a personal preferance, like how much would you PREFER to spend?
