So I really don't have as much time as I would like to get in the woods, just like a lot of us on here, full time job, 11 month old son, and just the day to day stuff of being a responsible dad/ husband seems to take away time from the woods. Regardless tonight I am going to go tonight and see what happens. I'll get in the woods around 545 for like an hour and a half. The wind isn't good for any stands but I'm thinking I will just hunt on the ground. Do you all suggest ground hunting this time of the year? I plan on being aggressive with rattling and calling to see what I can get. Think I am going in too late or should I just wing it? Thanks again for all the help Blake
JMHO. Be aggressive this time of year especially with your limited time to hunt. Try and be as scent free as possible and give her hell. Forget the ground hunting and go for it. Good luck.
Ground hunting really isn't that much different than stand hunting. You still need to play the wind and have an idea where the deer are coming from. I don't think that there is ever a bad time to hunt on the ground as long as you do it the right way. A lot of people hunt solely on the ground, so you can definitely have success like this, especially with the pre-rut kicking in. Good luck, hope you knock one down.
Ground hunting can be quite effective. You have to he even more mindful of the wind and your movements, but you can kill deer from the ground for sure.
