    hey guys.
i have just been hooked into the whole trail camera thing. i have been using a stealth cam and i guess it takes pretty good day time pics but the night time pics kinda suck.

and i have got to get another camera... idealy i would want a cuddeback capture with all the good review and pics i have seen from them, but its really out of my price range. which is like $150 or so. do you guys know of any good cameras in that price range?... maybe a moultrie?

I love my Moultrie IR 4.0:d ...I put this up last Oct and batteries still read 35% on Sunday, after hundreds of pics...that alone helps when comparing prices with other models that blow through the batteries. Pic quality is good as well - only con might be slow trigger speed...but for $179 I highly recommend this product.

Another good product is the Bushnell Trophy Cam I saw it on eders.com for $169.99 I think. Normally that camera costs $200 something

I have a 2007 IR40 and it is a great camera, but in 2008 the trigger speed was terrible. Some where around 3 seconds. I haven't heard for sure if they have fixed the problem for 2009. I don't think they are out yet. Check with Chasingame.com to keep track of when they come out and also read some reviews while you are there. That should help you decide what to get. The new 45 & 65 series are supposed to have a very fast trigger speed.

The Moultrie M-40 is another possibility for you and it's in your price-range. I have a Stealthcam I-590, about $100 and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. Here's a couple day and night time pics from it. I mean it's no reconyx but for a hundred bucks, it's pretty good.

with your stealthcam pastorjim. how user friendly is it?

i had the stealth cam I550 and it took pretty good night time pictures but horrible night time pics. it wasnt very user friendly. is the I590 a step up from the I550?

have you ever had any experience with the sniper pro?

    mnbowhunter,

After the initial setup, there is really nothing to setting it up in the field. As a matter of fact, it has one feature that I think all camera makers should have. The instructions for setting it up are posted right inside the door. So there's no getting out there and remembering you forgot how to do something and don't have the book with you. So far, I've only had it a little over a month, I have been very pleased with both day and night pictures. Today, as a matter of fact, I went out and placed three different brands of trailcams, Stealthcam, Moultrie I-40, and Reconyx, on the same tree to see what differences there are and which cam is best suited for different situations. I will report the results in about 7-10 days. As for the other model Stealthcams you mentioned, I have no experience with any of them.

    Blessings.....Pastorjim

let me tell you, $179 for a slow trigger speed or another 20 bucks for a Cuddebak. Is a no brainer. I've gone the cheap route, they seemed adequate until my cousin put his cuddebak on the same tree as mine. You should see the pics my Moultrie missed!

I know what my new cam will be... Good luck to you!

well guys i went with the stealth cam sniper pro(the $149 dollar one)

from what i can see it will be a good buy. sure its not a cuddeback, but the reviews and picture samples look great. Maybe the future will bring me a cuddeback but for now im happy with my buy.

    thanks for the help fellas

You don't need a cuddeback to have a good camera. The one you bought is as good as a cuddeback.

I love my moultrie as well, the only downfall is that it doesn't want to work sometimes in extremly cold weather.
