I missed him, and my Uncle got him.

Man, I couldn't be happier and more heartbroken. Let me start off by saying this. . .

Tink's #69 works. It brought in the big boy you're about to see, and if I would have waited a bit longer, I could have spined him under my stand. I wanted a cleaner shot. I wish I had waited.

At any rate, I moved my stand again from my old honeypot to a gigantic hardwood bay on the property I'm hunting, and with little hope of seeing a deer, I cover the general area of my stand with a healthy dosage of estrus. I then leave to get my gear from the house and head back to the stand at 4:30. Probably around 5:30, my uncle passes up the 4 point I saw before I dropped my 6. At 6:00, a south Georgia monster catches the scent of a doe and strolls into my line of sight. He trots behind thick cover, and I take the opportunity to stand. As he brings his bulk into a lane, I draw and set my top pin on the spot where white and brown meets behind his front shoulder. I release and listen to my arrow thud harmlessly into a stump he's standing in front of. My illuminock is glowing dangerously close to the kill zone. The buck, unalarmed, trots back the way he came before finding the estrus trail and heading down the bay to my Uncle. He presents me with another shot, but I decide against it due to the range. He was probably 35-40 at that point, and I'm not comfortable with the idea of wounding an animal, especially after my first shot.

He leaves my sight, and I hear the nearby echo of Bubba's Browning .306. I wait a moment for the followup, and none comes. I yell through the woods, "Is he down!?" to which he replies, "YES!" My lips come to a grin while my heart sinks. I suppose it was meant to be, I'm a young buck myself whom has plenty of seasons to go. He's an old buck and I don't know how much longer he'll be deer hunting.

Congratulations to my Uncle Bubba on Brutus senior.

What do you guys think he scores? He may have one to put in the record books for our county.

    I'd say he'll probably go around 115-120"

Congrats to your uncle. Like you said, you have many years left to hunt. At least it was someone you know that got him, and you got to see him up close.

Good news is old boy had a gash under his eye that looked like it was left by an antler. Mo' big boys in the area. :D
